Nycfc Social Club (for Supporters Who Don't Want To Be In "supporter Culture")

Just to echo what Section1Guy Section1Guy said, we are considering a few options.

Since we'll have four tickets, we were considering going two in the supporters, two in the nicer sections. But if we can get a good group together, I think all four could be nice.

For anyone interested, John and I are looking into group tickets to Yankee Stadium to do some seat scouting. Think it would be awesome to go around and see the different sections and make a choice like that on a Sunday afternoon or something.

Thoughts?

Okay, now that the prices have been released... I think we should be proactive with the club and see if we can get Section 136... I was worried that it was too low originally, but after seeing the youtube video, I'm sold that it's a great seat.

As someone who has been to many games and sat in nearly every section (exaggeration, but every general area at least), you're right that they aren't bad. But if you look at the angle from the corner loge, it's kind of perfectly directed from the corner toward the entire pitch, meaning less head turning than you'd have on the sideline and a far better perspective on action at the other end. If you're too low, action in the other box is just a mass of people.

Additionally, and most importantly, I think many of us are concerned with having the supporters section behind us since that would defeat about 80% of the reason for our effort. Having them in my ear the whole game will make me crazy.

Lastly, I think the goal of being an example for other fans would be lost with us being in a section that just looks like more supporters section seats.

No reason to decide today. Just offering some factors to consider before we have another runaway train.
Heck, it might be best if we just put a pin in the section choice discussion until we get our forum section up and going.

Do you guys mind if I weigh in on this idea? I know that I'm a board member and all, but first, I would have loved if you all would have possibly brought the idea to us before going off and starting your own thing. This idea has been spoken about in length and we plan on having the Third Rail be incredibly family friendly. That also means having a section near to but not next to the Supporters Seat ticket plan. We have already spoken to the club about this and are still in discussions as to which section is best for the family wo/man who wants to bring his kids, the guy/girl who wants to be a SC member but not sit with them, and the like. You need to let us build out some more. It's wrong to judge a book by it's cover since we have only been printed, in essence, 4 weeks ago. Let us engage a bit more, or better yet, feel free to engage with us. Chance is a family man with young kids for instance and this was something he had mentioned upon our first meeting. Please at least give us the opportunity to create that division for you. We are all new at this, are building a great relationship with the club, and would easily voice your concerns to them. We want to represent YOU and what YOU want. Give us that opportunity first please. Trust me, I don't really drink, ever, and am a very laid back individual. It would be a privilege to help secure this for you if that is what you want.

Actually, I mind in that the oversimplification and mischaracterization of our interests in your post speaks to exactly why this thread has become so popular so quickly. Sitting in an alcohol free section has not been suggested a single time. I can't respond to this line by line right now, but know that I appreciate and support your efforts and fully intend to pay dues to TRSC because I think what you all do is absolutely critical.

I know you guys are trying, but it's simply not possible to meet everyone's desires under a single group. That's not a criticism, just reality. Our little niche won't be seeking influence, accolades, enrollment numbers or even dues. We are just aiming to provide opportunities for social connections that enhance our enjoyment as fans of soccer and NYCFC.

Please know that efforts were made to privately reach out to TRSC leadership a couple of days ago. It was my intent to have a private conversation; thus avoiding even the appearance of conflict that something like what happened here might create. I'm sorry that we weren't able to do that for whatever reason.

We can certainly take this into a private conversation, but it's quite simple really. Our goal is to facilitate and build individual connections among and between those who share common interests. Aside from the overreach of power that dictating my seating section would represent, TRSC should not be involved in an effort as granular as where people on a message board discuss meeting up to drink or sit.

I firmly believe that what we are talking about here can not be created by anyone but its intended audience.

Sorry for the terseness, but bringing this public on your terms was malicious at worst and ill-thought-out at best.

I personally don't have a conflict, and being that I wasn't reached out to I can't speak to that facet. I will gladly chat with you privately and none of what I said is malicious. If you feel that way than I publicly apologize as that was not my intent.

Thanks for the apology. I appreciate it. I have no doubt that all is cool.

I'm glad that we can now connect in a more appropriate manner.

It's early yet, and I do not doubt regardless of where anyone sits, will be an issue. We still have the virtual seating map to see with the soccer overlay, I just think this thread is more of a public thought tank, bouncing ideas around with nothing set in stone.

This is a very inclusive and laid back group here, and I am certain the game day atmposhere at the stadium will be second to none in MLS and everyone, be it a young college kid, Father with a family and some young kids, a Brooklyn Hipster or a someones grandfather will feel at home. We have awhile before seat selection starts and even longer before the first game is played.

Isn't this group supposed to be an umbrella for everyone? You know there are going to be branches of supporters who are going to do their own thing. I don't think it's good to demand or ask for explanations on things when people are working for the greater good.

I'm down with this idea, either existing through TR or as it's own entity. Regardless, there's no harm in talking about what section would work best because this is a decision that will have to be made very soon.

Secondly, I don't see the need for bickering when it was clearly voiced that this post and potential group wasn't meant to step on any toes.

And finally as Midas said, there's too much going on for one person or group of board members to assemble everything themselves. Time is ticking and things have been moving very slowly (not a bad thing necessarily, it should be done right and not rushed). No harm in putting the wheels in motion.

Just saw this thread but I am interested in learning more.
It's a work in progress. Truly a grass roots 'organization'. I'll suggest reading through the thread to get a feel for it then, if you can, take a minute to fill out the survey.

In short, we are trying to connect fans who want to be more than just folks who show up to a match with a blue shirt, but lack the time, energy, patience, commitment to be a full-on banner waving, face painted Supporter.

And this should not be perceived as an anti-Supporters Group. We aim to work with TRSC to provide an outlet for everyone.

Thanks for taking the time to come over and check us out.

You don't have to be all of that to be a supporter in the supporters section. I don't understand how you want to be in the supporters group but don't want to sit with them/be your own section. You don't have to be crazy, drunk, or loud to be in the supporters group/section. That's not wht its about at all. And it seems every response from you guys is attacking the board of the third rail. It honestly just seems that this was formed because people didn't like what the board said, they aren't on the board, or they are mad because their name wasn't chosen. The group is brand new, give it a chance first, and don't make generalizations about what being a supporter means because you've seen a few crazy people on tv.

Isn't this supposed to be a place of discussion? Embarrassing when a post is taken down for having an opposing view, not a good look for a new supporters (group) faction.

I don't think the post was removed on purpose. I re-apporoved it, so it's back up. There were no notes attached, normally when we remove something we add a note so that other mods are up to speed.

So.... any reason why my post was deleted?

I deleted it. Here's why:

1. It was repetitive of points covered elsewhere in the thread, and I'm tired of writing the same explanation over and over.

2. It implied conflict that doesn't exist between Social and TRSC.

3. It included completely baseless allegations, about whom, I'm not even clear.
