Nycfc V Cosmos Postgame & Motm

Couldn't watch the game last night, so I stayed off of social media until 1 to watch the game, I can't believe that we lost how we did.

Not gonna dwell on some of the bad decisions that Kreis made, just trying to appreciate that Poku is a god and hopefully we can get a win this weekend.

Regarding Villa playing. If no one on the bench can help and you are planning for penalties then you don't use your sub(s). Then you sub in Villa in the 119th minute. No risk. Then your PKs are by Villa Poku Mix Mullens Ballouchy.
Did you watch the game? Because we were winning and all of our subs were used with 10 minutes to go and a 2-0 and 2-1 lead. Hence we didn't have a reason to sub in a forward. This place would of gone ape shit if we subbed in villa with a lead and anything at all happened to hin

His post is obviously based on going to extra time & penalties and holding onto at least 1 sub to use at the last minute to bring on Villa solely for PKs. Hence the part about subbing "in Villa in the 119th minute". He said nothing about bringing Villa on with a 2-0 or 2-1 lead.

We can debate whether or not Villa would have played at all depending on various circumstances, but what we know is what happened: Kreis fucked up all 3 subs less than a week after getting all 3 subs exactly right against the Impact.

Exactly. Kries made his last sub at 87, when we were winning but it looked very likely that we would concede again and end up headed to extra time. So don't make that sub. Save it for later and leave yourself options. If they don't score we would have won. If they did, Poku would have gotten a short rest before heading back out. If Poku really was too tired to go on, he could have made that sub in extra time. If he wasn't then save the sub and throw Villa on at the very end for the penalties.

He should not have made that sub there, it wasn't necessary to save Poku's legs when there were only 3 minutes left in regulation and it fucked us out of tactical options in extra time.

Don't forget that Poku is one of our top 3 to 5(?) players, and Grabavoy is in the bottom third to fifth.

So we win the penalty kick, and clearly , without villa, none of us have any idea who will take the kick. What was the ranking in your mind of who you thought would take it?

Mine was:
Mix
Mullins
Ballouchy
Grabavoy
Jacobson
Alvarez

I guess the last three could be interchanged, but I never in a million years would have picked Alvarez. I think he probably just demanded it since he thinks he is better than everyone else, and no one cared or had the balls to say no, Mix is taking it.

That's easy. My exact quote when I saw Alvarez holding the ball:

"Wait. What the fuck? Mix is on the field! Guys!! Over there! Mix! He's on your team. He's on the field!! Right now!!! Give him the ball. What the fuck are you doing!?!?

What just happened? Without Villa Mix should be our number 1 for PKs. Number 2 would clearly be Mix. And number 3 is Mix!

Alvarez isn't even on that list. How the hell did he just take that PK for us?!?

Paul and I had this exact discussion in the stands. I saw Mullins looking pissy about it. Mix needs to be more assertive in that situation. It's why I wish Kreis would just give him the armband all the time. It would grow him as a player and a leader. Villa would have that role without the arm band, so it makes sense to me to give it to the guy who is really the "face of the franchise" and let him grow into it.

I made a twitter account for Cityzens points purposes. I use it to follow the club, its players, and some US Soccer things too. I just clicked unfollow on Alvarez and Watson-Siriboe, hopefully that will help me get out of this depressed state.

Is it typical that this would be left to an on field decision? Villa takes our PK's but there isn't someone who has practiced and is believed to be the #2? I've seen Premier League players snipe at each other about who is going to take a free kick, but I've never seen it with PK's

It happened to Liverpool this past season in a Europa league game against Besiktas. Balotelli took the ball away from Jordan Henderson who was the captain that day in Gerrard's absence. To his credit, Balotelli converted the PK for a 1-0 Liverpool win. The moral of the story is, if you are going to step up and play the hero, DON'T MISS.

Balotelli has a 95% PK conversion rate..... He should take them all day every day!!

P.S. Liverpool fan here.....

I love me some Balotelli. That was a great scene.
