Nycfc V Toronto Motm And Postgame

Anyone see or hear from Kreis as to why he went 4-4-2 when TFC couldn't do anything against us last game when we played with a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1. I don't remember exactly which but Villa was alone up top. It worked perfectly, why change it?

Yankee Stadium has terrible viewing angles. Honestly the worst offender looks to be Iraola, then Kwame, then Wingert.
Actually agree. With the diagonal grass lines it is very difficult to tell. If you just glance and assume the lines are perpendicular like a real soccer field it looks like Wingert by a mile. But once you discount the grass lines it's very difficult to tell.

Comments on Iraola: good debut. Looks dangerous going forward. Petulance cost him and us. He took a little contact in the box and flailed around on the ground trying to get a PK. Ref gave the corner and sent Iraola to the sideline for his "injury". Iraola immediately asked back in but with play on that sideline the ref waved him off. He came in anyway and got carded.

That was why he couldn't foul Gio on the fourth goal. The way he was grabbing at him you could tell he wanted to take the professional foul. But he didn't want a red on his debut and rightly so.

Lesson for him I hope. Don't take stupid early yellows. They'll often come back to bite you. Should have been easily avoidable.

Back to Villa's free kick. He's a good free kick taker but not an expert.

Imagine what Pirlo could do ok free kicks with these keepers?

Pirlo will score at will with any PK near the box.

Why do away supporters fill the top row first, instead of filling the lowest row first?

I assume

a. because they're the seats the club sells first
b. security reasons. It's easier to keep an eye on fans when they're not occupying the front row
c. so they don't throw things at the NYCFC fans below

Montreal fans moved to the front and were pushed back after some arguments. Then they moved to the front again and were allowed to stay there.

I used to be that Euro snob, when I had no team of my own and I'd occasionally go to a redbull or Revolution match with friends, I would likely spend half the time talking about EPL or other soccer while at the match. Now that I have my own team to actually support it annoys me to no end when I hear people not paying attention to the match to be talking Euro soccer for large stretches. Even on the train home after hearing a bunch of guys wearing our colors but talking nothing but Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool and nothing about the crazy 4-4 draw we'd just seen. Sorry for the rant and maybe it's a wee bit hypocritical but I don't like people viewing us as some minor amusement that comes in lower than their interest in "Real" IE. Euro soccer.

Yeah, I've brought / friends have brought Euro snobs to see us and they've made disparaging remarks about the lack of tradition and "they only had that song as of the beginning of this year" comments as if this somehow invalidates what is being built here. Really annoying. Reminds me of the "you need job experience to get job experience" conundrum. We have to start somewhere you asshats.

There are sadly many season ticket holders who go to these games and make snide remarks about the "quality of play".

Interesting analogy to job experience I've always thought of it like an old bitter married guy telling a Newlywed they don't know what love is.

Not actually even talking about people making comparisons about our quality of play to EPL or CL and bitching about it. Talking about people out right seeming more interested in talking about EPL or CL etc. than actually watching the match their at. Like we're some sort of outdoor soccer meeting group and not a real team/match/event.

I can see how that could happen in a non-offensive way, as an accoutrement to actual match engagement, but agree that it could be annoying if that's all that's going on.

Given that it's too late to sign a top class international defender, why not play 3-5-2 with 2 attacking full backs? 3 central defenders should be enough on a pitch that narrow.
