NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

So for the people less familiar with academy structures, what is this guys role? It appears as though Crooks' headline was wrong on job title, as his title is director of coaching and will report to an academy director.
"At NYCFC, Manning will work closely with Sporting Director Claudio Reyna and Academy Director Sam Pugsley to ensure the Academy’s playing style and philosophy across all ages is aligned with the Club’s footballing ethos."

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but the result does make me wonder if most of NJ's more talented U-19s are already playing for their USL team.
Yes but according to reporters our academy has surpassed the Red Bulls. We’re just waiting for this crop to be integrated and for them the lack of a crop to be integrated.

Looking at the video uploaded by NYCFC showing the highlights from the game, you can see it is a lot closer than the scoreline dictates. I would even say it is a close game.

Don't worry about overtaking them anytime soon. Since there isn't a USL team, most of these first group of players will probably end up playing elsewhere or going to college for a couple of years at best, wasting formative years away.

really ? RB II still doing good in USL i figured they have some kids ready to be part of First team
I had the RBII game on for about 20 minutes over the weekend. The team was half NJRB players who didn't make the 18 this weekend. USL created a 3rd division for teams that want to just put their U19s out there.

That Liverpool team our U19s beat in Dallas just won the FA Youth Cup the U19s qualified for the GA Cup that they won last year (with a team mostly made of players playing up in age). The club is doing a great job with the Academy.

Not quite on point but when I saw the official USMNT U17 roster, Gio Reyna was listed as unaffiliated -- that hopefully means that when he signs a professional contract NYCFC is able to make a claim for solidarity payments.
