Patrick Vieira Appointed As NYCFC Coach

Says he starts Jan 1, what about the planned camps this week and prior to the PR game?

yes this is also weird, i read somewhere there was only once more coach left behind. gonna be interesting to read what happens in camps.

as for Vieira well what can you do all we can do i hope he does a good job AND is not influenced by reyna to keep Kwame, grabavoy, hernandez etc. but ill believe it when i see it.

Great move for the kids we have and now likely the MC kids we will get. You would have to think that our DPs had some say in the decision (?) and, if so, it suggests that they were comfortable playing for PV (albeit, a contemporary). PV knows he has a ton to prove, so I expect him to go all-in with this. I support the decision until I have a good reason not to. New blood, new life for all.

Guys guys guys... This is someone who has worked with youth and got the best of them promoting players to first team in recent years. Hopefully he can do the same with our youth and get us closer to where we need to be.

well the problem with that is ....we got not youth yet. we literally just started our academy for U14 thats years away. The only thing he can do is bring youth team players from Man city on loan.

I may be in the minority, but I really like the hire. He should work well with the vets *and* the young guys as a former developmental coach.

I think he'll spend a few years here developing the team and hopefully pass off a polished product to a successor when he goes back to Europe.

That said, I'm surprised *he* took the job. Seems like a stepping stone that he didn't necessarily need, given the level of interest in him elsewhere in Europe.

Slim hope and chance he ends up loving it here and stays for awhile. :p

I don't know a ton about him, but MCFC or not, he'll be the only Non-Hispanic POC head coach in MLS. That's a nice thing to see.

How old do you think the avg NYCFC fan that they'll find Dylan references obvious? (I mean, I got it, but I'm a giant nerd)

Looking on the bright side, I see a great parody song opportunity here - chorus is:

Oh, I ain't gonna root for Mansour's farm no more.

Tune should be obvious.

I hope we hold him to a high standard. As in not give him a pass on shit we would have criticized Kreis for. He better fucking impress.

lol you know that wont happen, he can have a bad record like kreis and CFG will say its ok he just had a "bad year"

If you want high quality coaching talent in MLS, you have to get them before they have success in a big league, or get them once they are washed up. Once the authentic american coach experience proved to be a legendary fail, I'm happy to go with a guy that has experience with top youth talent, and can still command respect from our DPs. Its a coolly logical choice, and I am excited to see training camp.

He knows how to evaluate talent, and for god's sake, we need fresh eyes to look at the current roster and tell a few guys to pack their bags. He won't care what these guys did years ago at RSL et al, he'll look at what they did this past year and what he thinks they can contribute next year.

And any MCFC loanees will run through brick walls for the guy - by the end of this past season, I don't think Facey or Angelino was willing to do that for Kreis.

Also as much as I criticized Kreis' over reliance on ex RSL corpses, I wanted him to get a second year so it wouldn't be a what if scenario.
Yes Viera's former job will get us schadenfreunde but ultimately, I don't give a shit about what fans of another team who already don't like us have to say. I want us to be successful.
his job running an academy means he has an interest in developping players and he won't be someone over relying on old guys. Instead, we'll be looking at young dynamic international players in addition to local talent so that's the bright side. Hopefully Reyna steps it up and his American moves pay off.
#HalaCeleste and fuck everyone else.
