Patrick Vieira in line to become new manager of Saint-Etienne

Not sure how reliable it is but it does raise questions about the timing of his departure if he does leave at some point in the future. Is it even contractually possible for him to take a job and leave in the middle of our season? Assuming he can't what team is going to sign him as their manager when he wont be able to begin work with the new team until late fall?

Copying my comment from r/MLS:

More info at the link. Saint-Etienne has reached out to Vieira to gauge interest. But there's a split among S-E owners as to which direction to go with the next manager. One likes Vieira ("big name") and one prefers the current manager of RB Salzburg (lower pay).

So, we could lose our coach. Or, RB Salzburg could lose their coach, in which case there is a > 0% chance that New Jersey would in turn lose their coach to replace the one from Salzburg.

Potentially a lot riding on this...

From January in case you forgot.

It's interesting to me that an MLS manager is the higher-cost option compared to the manager of the Austrian Bundesliga's title holder.

RB would either become a dumpster fire with Marsch leaving mid-season, or they'd do a 180 and be successful because they respond better to a coach that isn't a prick..... either way would be fascinating to watch.

I second dumpster fire. Then again, the same could happen to us if Viera leaves. Can we get any confirmation as whether or not this is credible?

As long as only talksport is reporting it, its about as creditable as random rumors on the internet.

If its eurosport, we might be loosing our coach.

It's worth reading what the report says before getting obsessed over whether it is credible.
This is the sum total of the substance of the article:

"However, according to RMC, Vieira has now also been sounded out about possibly taking the reins at Saint-Etienne."

Vieira has been sounded out

  1. Passive voice, we don't know who sounded him out.
  2. No word on his response. Did he say fuck off, or show me the money or anything in between? Crickets.
Why get hung up on credibility of TalkSport when the report simply says some unnamed person made unknown inquiries in his direction, theoretically on behalf of Saint-Etienne. It can be 100% true and why give a rat's ass? Until there is a report that says he is interested or talks are productive it really doesn't concern me much if it's true or not. Further, why even doubt it. People make initial inquiries all the time.

Finally, for all the concern about Talk Sport's reliability, did nobody notice they attribute the information to RMC? Which is also where NYCFCNation got the story? Which is Radio Monaco? Where you can find the original article here, which makes it clear that there is not even any consensus at St.-E about whether they want Vieira? The TalkSport article has nothing that is not in this article, so why is the credibility of TalkSPort at issue? They reported RMC's report accurately, but with less detail. RMC reported that someone at St.-E wants Vieira and other people there don't , and somebody reached out to Vieira's people. We don't even know if they got through.

Why do people think attacking the closest messenger is the best way to asses a piece of news. It's basically the ad hominem fallacy made into a first principle.

i think its because we dont know what RMC is...and nycfcnation actually links you to the article from RMC. plus people tend to not believe talksport so that adds to it.

I was on yesterday and cleared thru my new posts and was back down to 0. Got on a few hours ago and saw 250 new posts. Instantly figured pirlo retired. Nope, just very active last night and today.
Tomorrow is my last day and Im on a 12 day vacation before starting in Richmond. Really looking forward to it, the last few weeks have been crazy with holidays and making time for family and friends. Also looking forward to getting back into the swing of things here.

If PV goes dose T Mac stay ???

Why would YMac stay? He's an overpaid MLS 2.0 player trying to play in an MLS 3.0 game. I'm sure there are lesser quality MLS teams that could make use of his talent, but for us TMac is surplus to requirements due to his physicality or lack thereof.

I think PV still has a bunch to figure out about how to be a manager. He has the motivation & culture part down but I think he needs to work on his game-planning, in-game tactics, and subs. NYCFC is a low pressure situation in which practically no local outlets really cover the team.

Used to travel to Richmond 1-2 times per month for work. Let me know if you have any questions about things to do, places to eat, hidden spots, etc.
