Patricof Forgoing Renewing Club President Position for 2019, Will Become NYCFC Board Member

The way I read it as his contract is ending and they are kicking him upstairs to the Board, not necessarily him leaving and/or being forced out.

So, his day to day job for NYCFC is done. But he's on the Board due to his linking and network to those who can help NYCFC.

Second thought, maybe this can be considered a promotion due to the good things he has done for NYCFC and maybe a stadium announcement is coming sooner that we think?

There's a significant difference between acting as the team's highest business executive, and serving on the Board, which is a lot more passive and sporadic, setting broad policies and engaging in oversight. But it is a good sign that he is staying on the board as that indicates he and the team are parting on good, mutual terms. He had a 3-year contract, and both parties are letting it run its course. They're just not renewing for one reason or another.

I have zero experience in the Executive realm, but it seems strange for this announcement now. He’s on for another 3.5 months in current role, but they don’t yet have somebody lined up to take over. Would think it’d make more sense to have one announcement segue into the other without a gap between, because while NYCFC is currently doing an executive search, it seems like they could quickly find themselves behind the 8-ball as the deadline approaches (much like our transfer windows). IDK, just seems like the position of President is one where you have your ducks lined up first before talking about lines of succession.

If he's really the one who's been spearheading the stadium effort, this doesn't seem great. Why change the negotiator before you’re over the line, unless he was the wrong fit to get the job done.

That would be nice, but also requires that the club engage in a search for a replacement high level executive with under absolute secrecy. That means nobody in the organization talks, which you can probably manage, but also that no candidates say anything, and that nobody notices meetings between club reps and the people who would be candidates. Better probably to just put it out there. I don't expect it to lead to instability.
So the guy who was supposed to bring us a stadium is gone.

This doesn't worry me either. For a deal of that size, any lead negotiator will need to consult with the board and ownership before committing. Patricof can make a deal between now and the end of his tenure if there is a deal to be made. If not, I I don't think there's a huge learning curve. You want someone familiar with NY politics and real estate, but becoming familiar with this specific task shouldn't take someone who knows those things more than a few days. And we've got Marty Edelman pulling a lot of that weight.

I think they want to maintain his network while essentially firing him. We all know the problems the club has in areas off the field. I'm thinking declining attendance and very very bad renewals sent him out of the corner office and they are going to bring someone with a track record of improving the game day experience.

yes thats what im seeing it as, and feels bad. Feels the work he did in three years almost was not enough to do it, really felt like he knew people to try get things done. Unless they gonna get someone who is buddy buddy with yankee organization to get that GAL site settled.

still think that its YS being the problem really and prices going up for different sections every year. feel "experience" is limited with what you can do at YS

I don't really think the gameday atmosphere and experience can be improved at Yankee Stadium.

You live in a bubble pitchside.

Excluding the product on the field, the only two improvements to the stadium experience and atmosphere has been the removal of City Beats from within the stadium and the smoke stacks in the left field bullpen.

They can't change the food vendors or pricing. Which is probably number 1 on fan's stadium atmosphere and experience wish list at Yankee Stadium.

And some of the other big ones are unfixable - acoustics, sightlines, the sprawling empty effect, etc. The two necessities for drawing fans are the product on the field and a (convincing) promise of a new stadium. If either or both of those significantly and continually fail, there are no fixes for that.
