Philadelphia - Postmatch - Knockout Round

Should I be excited for Sunday? Are we good again? We looked the part, but how much of that was the team just being dominant, and how much of it was Philly being poor?

I don’t want to get my hopes up for fear of a blowout

Also, Maxi was MVP, he was so influential. HM to Herrera for again playing so well

We played some great football at times and it's very pleasing to be able to say that.

Right at them from the start and mostly hunting in packs, ready to pick up any loose balls. If this is what "waiting for the playoffs" is like, then I like this style of play.

Exemplified by Maxi, at 3-1 up in the 80-odd minute, still sliding in to challenge their keeper on a clearance.

Philadelphia were beyond pish, I'd be furious if I was one of their fans, somehow I think they were even worse than Sunday.

Ref was dreadful again, so many bad calls - one of our players touches them and they go down, instafoul; one of our players goes down after getting hit in the face, play on.

And also, fuck these 7pm games. Had to leave work early, got on a D train that didn't even stop at Yankee Stadium, waited for ages for the next one, then sat in a tunnel for 15 mins, missing the kick off!

Still happy though.

Pretty good win and that’s two games in a row that Trusty basically killed any chance Philly had - he was a disaster and was rightfully picked on by NYCFC. A better CB and NYCFC doesn’t get the looks and breaks on net.

Everything looked pretty good, except Ilsinho again showing the world that Mata and Sweat are not very good at defending. And Sweat laid another turd in the reckless challenge to Bedoya that could had easily ended in a penalty. OTOH so many bad offside calls against us! I though refs were supposed to keep the flag down in close calls and let plays progress and go to VAR in case of a goal. These ones never got the memo.

:joycat: everything he touched over both games turned to shit!

Haven't laughed so much at a football game in a long time.

I think he was mentally frazzled and shot after about 5min tonight. He didn’t put a good foot forward afterwards and didn’t seem to be able to mark or judge long balls at all. I’ve never seen so many balls drop in over the head of the defender to be picked up by the attacker - felt sorry for him but fortunate we were the beneficiary. I think Tab Ramos has called him in for qualifiers- not sure he’s gonna be psychologically recovered.

Good first half, but I hate how quickly we get away from tactics that work. Glad we finally looked like the old NYCFC. We'll always look best playing through our spine, which is the best in the league IMO, when we play through the middle. Maxi is so underrated even with 8g 16a on the season. he might be our best player all year and 100% our MVP. Playing Vieira style will get us a win Sunday. Dome abysmal on the road, so we may need some animal sacrifices.

Isi's goal was great (that Villa dummy!) but it was interesting to see how extremely left-sided we were. I feel like other than his goal he was really isolated for most of the match.

Maxi Maxi Maxi Maxi.

Prediction: we beat ATL at home, but the away leg goes to PKs.
