Aaaaand how was the experience!?

I didn't take any pictures of the match but I'll do my best for the next match. It's the normal check in procedure at the suite entrance but they give you a pitch side wristband and another wristband instead of the just the legends wristband. From there you have access to the Legends club, same as last year. There's a podium that says "Pitchside Check In" which is basically fan services people to walk you across the main concourse to the outfield to the Mohegan Sun Bar. There, they put tablecloths over the tables and have minimal food: a carving station, salad, and desert. To get to your seats you walk down further to right field to the door to monument park and walk down those steps. Walk through monument park, there's an opened door that says "Welcome to the Pitch" which leads to the Yankees bullpen, walk through the Yankees bullpen down the same steps Marino threw his final game at the stadium then onto the field. You either walk left to the visiting side or right to the NYCFC side.

The seats are custom made with the NYCFC logo on them and on metal bleachers. The cup holders don't hold Poland Spring water bottles but you can put them on the floor. At Legends you can order food from your seats, here it's only drinks. I'm in the section right next to the NYCFC bench and you're right there next to them. When the subs train, they're right behind you. You see Vieira and hear Vieira call for substitutions, formation changes, everything. All the players turn around to the video screen when there's a replay. The view of the field is amazing and like a typical football stadium. The views on the corners opposite you on the bench side can be hard since you're blocked by the benches/other sections but still wow. You see all the beauty of the moves of Pirlo from box to box on the bench side half of the pitch. Truly stunning. Everyone will have a view like this (though not as close) when we get our own stadium. I sat in a similar location at Red Bull Arena for US vs. Costa Rica and it's a very similar sightline experience. Except you look up and you're in a baseball stadium but I wouldn't discount Yankee Stadium for a minute.

All the seats had a "gift" on them which was a navy blue blanket with the NYCFC logo in the corner, nothing that special. Since it was a Sunday match the people were a mix, some fans, some families, some older, some younger. I'll see how this changes during the course of the year.

There was so much security though. From the door to monument park to my seats I was checked 4 times by security asking for my tickets and wristbands. Beyond that, there is just security near the players to protect them.

A ball came over to our section once, it bounced and I caught it. The Toronto player was calling for it but I held it until the ballboy came over and threw him his. I threw mine to the ball boy. Slow down the pace of play, keep that home field advantage.

Great stuff.

My reaction when I saw this was that I wouldn't buy season tickets this way, but that I might do an upgrade for a single game. Still feel the same way, but this makes me likely to stretch to have that experience.

It's definitely an experience one should try. That being said, finding tickets down here is difficult. There was only one ticket posted on TicketExchange and Stubhub for Toronto and it was the same person with a ticket in a section closest to the away bench. The same ticket is posted for Orlando and it's in the thousands of dollars.

I don't expect to see a lot of the same people game to game as these seats are likely owned by companies rather than individuals so the probability of resell online is low.

NYCFC is doing an Etihad seat upgrade for every game to pitch side seats but the probability of getting that is lower than NYCFC winning the treble this year.

That's very likely my friend. lol He may be testing the waters to see what he can get for those seats. I'll ask him.

You're right though. Most of those are corporate owned.

I love the odd specificity of the price on that seat: $2,632. I'm surprised it's not "and 17 cents" too. But I can definitely understand posting at that price neighborhood, especially if he's willing to go every game, and just figures he is also willing to sell one or two games at a crazy markup and subsidize his expensive purchase a bit.

Just wondering, apart from the obvious amazing experience, I can't really picture in my head really how the actual view of the game would be. Like when Villa was taking his pen and the play was on that side of the pitch, was it hard to see that from the angle you were at?

I'll provide pictures from the next match but I could see the penalty and the second goal. It's a bit difficult since the thing in your way is the players and you can't tell them to move. The right field corner is the most difficult since you have the benches and benches pitch side seat sections blocking the view.

Screw that, if I've paid $2000 for my seats, I should be able to shout at Giovinco and demand he moves three paces to the left so I can see better. Ideally he should call me "sir" when responding too.

Do you think the players/coaches etc. like/dislike the pitch side seats? Or doesn't make a diff to them

If it is indeed my friend; trust me, it's calculated.

I'm not sitting on the away side so I can't speak of the Jack Nicholson effect (i.e. screaming at the opposing players and coaches from his seat). Beyond that, this is Vieira's first season and the first season with the seats so there's nothing really to compare it to. In Europe there are seats next to the players and coaches so it should be normal.

The only downside I see for the players/coaches is that the sitting arrangement has limited the amount of room the subs have to warm up. It's a very small square footage area compared to last season as players would go down the entire sideline and endline even.

Hahahaha. That was you? I mentioned it to my neighbors that I was surprised someone sitting in the silk stocking seats knew what to do there. Well done.

I'm sorry, but I just cannot visualize any of this experience.... for the next game, please wear a mic'd-up GoPro on your head and record everything from the minute you enter the stadium to the final whistle (while kindly pausing it during the executive bathroom breaks). Dan can then stream it & we can all experience it vicariously through you!
