Premier League 18/19

I want to believe that United v City today will be a thrilling heavyweight bout that's necessary viewing, but I think the reality here is that United's defense is absolute trash and they're just going to get undramatically run over. Even despite the fact that United doesn't lose much at home.

Is anyone of the contrary opinion that United can make a game of this?

I loved Klopp's recent bantz about how Liverpool can't influence the outcome of this match and United probably can't either.
With Ashley Young playing RCB in a back three, it translates to essentially a 2-6-2 because he attacks the flank so well and isn’t really a post-up defender that his position requires. This will either be a master-stroke to control the midfield or they’re gonna get steamrolled.

I think Bernardo is one of the most exciting players to watch, period. I believe it was Pep, not too long ago, that said he’ll be one of if not the best player in the world within a few years.
Have to agree with him. You just can’t take your eyes off him even when he’s off the ball. Brilliant player.

Agreed. Bilva may be my favorite current footballer, even granted that there are a handful of elite players objectively better than him. I maybe found him slightly more fun to watch last season than this, but every match I watch him in amazes me.

United did make it harder for City than I'd expected. In the first half both teams looked nervy to me, but once B. Silva slipped in that shot at the near post in the second half the game was basically over.
And that happened right after Fernandinho went off for Sane, B. Silva moved in as the 8, and Sterling went right wing. Which was a change I was hoping for (swap Sane for Gundo) when Gundo went down injured near the end of the first half, because of how stacked Man U's back 5 was against the inverted wingers ;)

It's been interesting to see how KDB's prolonged absences have impacted Pep's "dual-free-8" concept that was deployed for so much of last year. It's a skillset he's much more suited for alongside Bilva than Dilva or Gundogan are.
Hmm you mean because of the shooting / goalscoring threat?

KDB is probably the most deadly passer on the team when fit, so he can create ball progression from central, deep, *and* wide, or find the final pass around the box, or take the shot himself, and he has the pace to get anywhere he needs to be. I feel like Dilva and Gundogan can both do a subset of those things but maybe not all of them.

I guess if Liverpool aren’t slipping their way out of a title they’re diving their way to one.

Seems like no one wants the final champions league spots lol

Well Chelsea did put in a good performance today but they've been up and down.

Spurs actually put on a pretty heroic performance IMO holding out for almost a half with 9 men but still lost to Bournemouth . Still look to be in great shape for 4th as...

Man U get held at Huddersfield lol (mathematically out of it)

And Arsenal pegged back by Brighton 3 points behind with a 8 goal goal difference disadvantage to spurs so..

It'll take a miracle or a Super "Spursy" performance for a Spurs loss and 8 goal swing for Arsenal to catch them now.

Arsenal are officially the Premier League's biggest divers as disciplinary record comes under spotlight

Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ 14th-minute yellow card for diving (v. Brighton) was Arsenal’s sixth Premier League booking for simulation this season, two more than any other side.

It came just five minutes after Nacho Monreal exaggerated contact with Alireza Jahanbakhsh to earn the penalty which Aubameyang converted.

Pretty sure everyone agrees that the contact was exaggerated by Fabinho Issue is the disciplinary committee isn’t penalizing them.

As a wise man once said -- I think it was PT Barnum -- no one has ever gone broke overestimating the odds of an Arsenal or Spurs collapse.
