Queensboro FC

Will Villa suit up for Boro in 2020?

  • Yes, and I’ll go to watch him play

  • Yes, but I won’t care

  • No, and i don’t care now that he left NYCFC

  • No, but if he did I’d have to attend

The great thing about the UPSL, if you show up, you can play. I call left wing.
I've got your $40 registration fee covered, 413Blue.

jesus all these teams in the lower leagues, cool as fuck though.

im just curious here, if they affiliate, can we potentially see some nycfc academy kids here while they in college?

Yeah that's probably an option. We were supposed to with LI Rough Riders but I don't think anyone did.

MLS - NYCFC
MLS - NY Red Bulls
USL Championship - Queensboro FC?
USL League 2 - Long Island Rough Riders
USL League 2 - Manhattan SC
NPSL Pro - New York Cosmos

Not a bad landscape.

you missing teams.
NPSL- Brookyln italians/ NY Athletic club ( new rochelle based but close enough) Kingston stockade ( upstate)
PDL- FA Euro- play at belson i think.

and thats not includnig CSL/ LIFSL amateur teams

Loan the academy kids not ready yet for the first team to those local clubs. I'm not even sure if or how the rules allow it by then again I never bothered to delve into them.

i think they can only send the academy kids who are in college at the time. since PDL is all about college kids playing during summer.

though not sure what RB, Union, Timbers etc do it

New Rumors:
  • Queensboro FC to be announced in September
  • David Villa to be owner/player
  • Will play at CitiField at a rental rate of $250,000 per game
  • Financial backers are a Chinese crowdfunding site

A USL team is going to rent a 40,000 seat stadium at $250,000/game? Come on. Does that make even a little bit of sense?

NYCFC can't get 25,000 fans into a baseball stadium to watch Major League Soccer, but a minor-league team is going to make Citi Field profitable for them at those margins? Preposterous.

I'm actually bullish on QBFCs likely attendance, but you're definitely right that $250k a game is crazy. My first thought was it might be a good money laundering scheme.

A lot more info needed yet to make sense of this, but I believe Villa is still pushing really hard to make it a reality.

Chinese crowdfunding site, as is the owners of the website itself? Or the funds are being crowdsourced by a Chinese site?

people will go, and maybe close to that for sure (opening day), shit a whole bunch of nycfc buddies of mine are from queens so they will do ok i think for those numbers. plausible to hurt nycfc attendance too and then those numbers drop too. the question becomes, what is the long term plan here. is that stadium still in the works on willets point, i thought the representative from queens who wanted that just lost her election.

chinese crowdfunding site, man i dont know im not expert on that market but feels like those just come and go.

Not sure. It was in a subsequent tweet and wasn't elaborated on.

Btw, it would take 10,000 fans paying an average of $25 per ticket on average just to break even on the rent payment. Maybe they could bank on some high value sales of suites for revenue?

I think they'd be much better served trying to get a pop-up stadium built in Flushing Meadows. With Katz and Moya on board, would it stand a chance to get forced through?

Melinda Katz is in the process of losing the Queens DA race, but is still the Boro President. She's in her 2nd 4 year term, I don't know off hand if there are term limits.

She is term limited. That's why she ran for DA. And there is a recount but she's currently leading. By 16 votes. Any prediction of the final result is worthless nonsense at this point.

Right, and it's not clear to me that it really matters whether she wins or loses. The DA wouldn't seem to have any influence on approvals for major projects, and either way she's going to be out as Borough President in 16 months or so.

Also recall that we are apparently paying the Yankees $1 million per game. So $250k is probably a realistic demand from the Mets.

Anyway, her role in the whole process even as BP is advisory. Assuming he gets no primary in 2021 (which in Queens these days... who knows?), the person who has actual say over Willet's Point land use issues for the foreseeable future is:
