And edited AGAIN because MLS can suck a bag of you know whats. Now we have a race to follow.

EDITED by Lion for clarity...

Now that Toronto has won the 2017 MLS Cup, there's a spot in the 2019 CONCACAF Champions league that would have gone to the MLS Cup champion that will now go to the best American MLS team with the highest points aggregate record over the 2017 and 2018 seasons. NYCFC are currently in 1st place. Here’s the updated standings:

NYC 57 points
CHI 55 points
ATL 55 points
CLB 54 points
POR 53 points
SEA 53 points
HOU 50 points
NJRB 50 points
SKC 49 points
SJ 46 points
DAL 46 points
RSL 45 points
NER 45 points
PHI 42 points
ORL 39 points
MIN 36 points
COL 33 points
DCU 32 points
LAG 32 points

Hey, wait a second.... if you want to edit my words because you think they aren’t clear (i thought they were), Fine. Not a big deal.

But I made out the standings with a + number to add to next year’s standings without doing all the heavy math and show how much of a favorite each team is vs the others. Now you’ve completely changed what I did. If you want to put down the total points, make your own post in the thread. But put my post back!

Yeah..... I have a real problem with this LionNYC LionNYC........ There is absolutely no excuse for you to rewrite another person's post. If you have a suggestion add it in another post. Not to be overdramatic but this is going down a dangerous path.....

Yes, you're right. I got way ahead of myself. I restored your original post. And accept full responsibility. I'd still learning the ins and outs of being an online moderator.

I just wanted to clarify that it's the highest American MLS team that will get the spot and it's the points of the 2017 and 2018 seasons. I didn't understand the +numbers metric you set up but now after reading it it's DC/LA's points plus however many points ahead the other team has.

Apologies for messing up your post and turning the conversation from it's original intent.

No worries. We’re cool.

For those wanting the points table...

NYC 57
CHI 55
ATL 55
CLB 54
POR 53
SEA 53
HOU 50
NJRB 50
SKC 49
SJ 46
DAL 46
RSL 45
NER 45
PHI 42
ORL 39
MIN 36
COL 33
DCU 32
LAG 32

Realistically I think we only have to worry about teams with 50 points or higher. But I don't see us slipping in our point accumulation in 2018. So likely only Seattle, Portland, Columbus, Atlanta, and Chicago are the worries.

What isn't indicated is if there's a tie in points after 2017 and 2018, how the spot is dealt. That decision is by USSF, not MLS. So is it the number of wins, or goal difference? We don't know yet.

Cross off SKC. They’re in already ;)

can i ask why was it done in this format? just feel starting points should be points now and then add the points obtained week by week as season goes on

as for the race for ccl i honesty just see Atlanta as the only true threat(still think chicago will drop off a bit) other teams tend to have slow starts.....of course all this is moot if we fuck up as well in the start then its catch up and its over

On this note, once US Open Cup rolls around, if we are not to win, I think we would be rooting for:

SKC
Chicago
Atlanta
Portland
Seattle

I just don't think Columbus will be good next year, though perhaps Dallas or SKC could contend, but they have quite some ground to make up

Again. Don’t have to worry about SKC. They won the USOC this year.
