Some (depressing) tidbits from a live Q&A with Sam Stejskal (the Athletic):

The article linked in the tweet is not about us, but discusses the potential for Arteta and/or Van Bronckhorst to replace Pep. The article in turn is based on this video interview with the Man City correspondent for the Athletic. He says that he thinks Pep will stay through the end of his current contract and the 2020-21 season, with only a small chance he leaves at the end of 2019-2020. But after that he thinks it's an open question.

The interesting bit for us comes starting just before the 12-minute mark where he discusses GVB. He mentions he visited us around the playoffs, and was mentioned as possibly coming here, but now of course he won't because he thinks he has a chance to replace Pep. Which I'm sure is true also of Arteta (who is also linked to Arsenal).

This makes it appear that our coaching search is on hold because everyone involved is waiting for Pep to make some sort of decision and for MC to decide who the actual heir apparent is, except I wouldn't expect Pep will decide anything in time for us to have to hire somebody. It's extra ironic because one of the reasons Vieira was speculated to have left is because Pep extended his contract, and PV didn't want to wait around to maybe get the MC position, and now the top rank CFG coaching prospects won't come here because Pep's departure might be coming soon and the last thing NYC needs is another mid-season coaching change in 1.5 years (or potentially even 6 months). But this is the problem of wanting to hire only from within the CFG family. All the major candidates really want the same thing and that is not NYCFC.

The stuff in the prior post would explain both why the hiring is taking so long and why we're not hearing any rumors, because everything is being conducted in house.

But I don't see how they break out of the logjam if nobody in-house wants our job when it also means losing out on taking over for Man City. CFG could tell one of the candidates he's out of the running for MC, in the hope that he would settle for NYC, but then that guy probably just leaves CFG altogether like Vieira did. At this point I'm wondering if Rodolfo Borrell is a candidate for us again. He's probably less inclined to look at himself as a direct successor to Pep in the next 1.5 years (though who knows maybe he does), so he could maybe be willing to come here and add some HC experience to his resume.

as i feared. GVB was set but with pep not doing well and bayern opening now hes like fuck that im sticking around manchester.

Mehdi Ballouchy it is.

Glenn Crooks, Interim Manager

Does Manchester actually know we're without a head coach/manager? There wasn't an article on Man City's website about Dome's departure.

I'm gonna predict that one of the remaining coaching staff will be named as interim/caretaker manager until they can figure out the pep situation in man city.

Sam Stejkal is just throwing shit against the wall.

Unless you have spoken to David Lee (who himself has no clue what is going on), you are just bullshitting right now.

He’s good and knows people around the league. But I doubt Khaldoon Mubarak is taking his calls

I think there is more in regards to some of the big openings. GVB and Vieira have both been connected to the Arsenal job. ManU might be opening up. It's a game of dominos and we are at the end of the line.

True. But if anything that just makes it worse for us, no?
If Arteta or GVB gets Arsenal or MU, then I fear that the other just buries himself deeper into Manchester hoping to wait out Pep. We need fewer major job openings and more candidates. Maybe we are looking at some outsiders, but neither history, reporting, nor even wild ass Twitter rumors suggest we are.

NYCFC lost Vieira because of Pep extending his contract.
NYCFC will lose GVB because Pep might leave his contract.

So NYCFC is effectively with its hands tied depending on whatever Pep has for breakfast this morning.

What a tire fire.

idk, at the end of the day I care about one thing: results.
I want to see our team win, I want to be happy with the way we are playing. Have we managed to do that? for the most part over the last four years, yes. There were periods where we all felt bleh, but I'd say for the most part this season and the first half of last season, I've been pretty happy with everything.
I don't care who comes and when they come, but if it gives us results on the pitch, then I'll be happy.

Who knows. These aren't the only candidates.

My sense a month ago was that there was a CFG candidate and a handful of local contingency plans.

With how things have changed recently, my sense is that those local contingency plans no longer exist. And I imagine the longer this drags out, there is no more CFG candidate.

If Cityzens points are still valid, I'll bid 7,000 to manage a game or the season.

What is a "local contingency plan?" How many qualified candidates are hanging around the tri-state area?

they probably said ahead of time they wouldn't answer any questions regarding the coach search. we are going into CCL and the season BLIND. seriously don't think we're gonna have a head coach by the time CCL starts. Interim/caretaker coach in the form of MaxiRing Chanot.

The more likely scenario is that the questioners didn't ask on their own because they may not have even been aware of the situation. Not like people in Mexico are up-to-date on NYCFC issues.
