Odd that there have been no rumors about the coach for 2-3 weeks. GVB was talked up for a while but that chatter has stopped, with nothing to replace it. If they were talking to anyone notable you figure there would be news. It's unusually quiet even by NYCFC standards. I had thought that the longer it went the less likely it would turn out to be GVB but now I'm wondering if it is him again just based on the total lack of rumors of anyone else.

Aso it's boring as hell.
September/October : Wake up to 50 posts
December: Wake up to 5 posts

If a manager is not announced by December 13, I'll start to be concerned.

If a manager is not announced by December 20, I'll start to be very concerned.

If a manager is not announced by January 3, I'll start to have deep doubts regarding CFG's ability to run NYCFC from a football operations standpoint.

I'm curious as to why you think that?

joking...... but we really should not wait till like january 1st to appoint. we start early with CCL new coach needs to watch tape and work on transfer targets so as soon as 1.1.20 hits they go ahead and get them. this month is for that.

Gotcha, agreed there is no sense in waiting and the earlier the better. Just was curious as it seemed like having a coach the minute we know who we'll be playing in CCL wasn't completely necessary (would be great though).

In reality, what would a coach be doing right now?

Let’s assume the coach has no say over the roster with this organization.

maybe because im biased and like the managers that are overly analytical. watching tape from our team a good core still here, see where they excel where they are not so great. also see quality of the league especially with someone coming from outside of MLS world. the "shock" of the league is less when the season starts (refs, turf, our own field). its almost only about a month before players report. i just feel sometimes managers who get here later take more time to get he ideas going, hell look at dome took long as time to get the wheels going. probably because he needed more time for proper prep and plan

he may not have a say in what exact player, but if we needa LB he needs to make a case hey we need a LB. we cant assume hell just say yea we can win with this exact squad.

When Vieira was hired, he was announced with a start date of January 1. So you have to figure Jan. 1 is when the new coach needs to hit the ground running, though with training camp starting 2 weeks earlier this year, that date might be closer to Dec. 15. So we really should have a new coach ready to start working within the next two weeks.

What's a coach doing? Getting his assistants, preparing the program for training camp ... and that's not including whether he has any say in new transfers, which seems dubious.

But he was announced in November, and was able to recruit assistants, watch team film, watch league film, watch the Puerto Rico friendly, etc., all before January 1, even if he wasn't officially on payroll. I always thought one reason for not starting him right away was that friendly (which was in December), so he wouldn't have to coach a meaningless game using the remnants of the 2015 squad (or answer questions why he wasn't coaching it).

I'm not sure there is a clear knowable date by which the new coach's preparation suffers because he lacks sufficient time. But if our coach is new to MLS (which I'm guessing is likely for us) I want him to have ample time just to do homework. The league has both its quirks and a certain level of play and I think becoming familiar with those will help anyone when training camp opens.

Doesn’t every coach get to renovate their office or is that just college football coaches? Because I expect the coach to be spending a shit-ton of time each day there and if he has to work in a CFG sanitized-designed space, he might as well set up shop at the local IKEA.

Agreed. Which is why I thought we really should have had a coach by now, and I think no later than by the end of next week there needs to be a decision. Because it takes time to get a visa, get assistants, etc. Not to mention be prepared to coach the team.

CCL. The team needs to be ready for competitive football in February. Watch some damn tape, evaluate your players, start scouting the opposition (after Dec 9), give input to training camp and CCL prep. Not having a coach at this time is bad. Having CCL and not having a coach is real bad.

I’ll stay in character and state that none of the points listed seem all that important TODAY. In three weeks? I would agree.

Orlando just got their coach, Oscar Pareja. So we’re not the only team that was behind on naming a coach.

Isn't that the opposite conclusion to make? As in, Orlando just announced their coach, we are officially behind on naming a coach with just three vacancies league-wide now (Chicago and Inter Miami)?

I didn’t realize there were that many vacancies to begin with. Dome leaving took them by surprise. I don’t think they had people lined up. If they did then it would of happened already. I honestly don’t think it matters when it’s announced. I expect it to be someone with little to no experience. That’s the expectation that’s been set.
