The more likely scenario is that the questioners didn't ask on their own because they may not have even been aware of the situation. Not like people in Mexico are up-to-date on NYCFC issues.

Nah the hosts knew( in the English transmission they were not Mexican) in the preview show when they introduced the teams they mentioned new coach to come and new director in place because Reyna went to “Austin bold”

As others said it’s more them saying no questions regarding coach. because towards the end one of the hosts said “I know you said before it was ok to ask you about this on air” and asked about his career and the different positions he’s held in nycfc

The hosts knew we have no coach.

It's just pathetic. Let them ask the question, and give a vague answer. It's not hard. "We're interviewing candidates. Can't give any names. Obviously a priority." blah blah blah But the desire for control is so strong they won't even allow that. And then we have the absolute farce of house journalist Glenn Crooks complaining that other interviewers won't ask certain questions on air because there is no independent coverage of this team that is allowed access (not Glenn's fault, but he is at the focus of it).

i personally hate those answers, i see it as a waste of time. like in my mind im thinking "well no shit, so get on with it"

EDIT: like the stadium stuff, its all about "were looking, its a priority" im like fuck that, work on it tell me when its ready to be announced.

Terrible. This is a big reason there is no trust in the organization between fans and the team.

Even if there was an agreement, why would these two guys give a s--- about access to David Lee in the future? I can't respect that.

If I were a journalist, I would ask it if for no other reason than that at a minimum they should have to face that much accountability. But I also think good journalists find a way to elicit a little more.

Notwithstanding some prior agreement that they wouldn't answer such questions, if those are the answers David Lee gave me -- and by the way, they said he gave "great answers" -- I would immediately put him on the spot. Just spitballing but "you've definitely highlighted some of the challenges MLS teams have historically faced in this tournament but it seems like there are two elephants in the room for NYCFC fans: where the games will be played and who will be the coach. How will you get nervous fans interested in this tournament? When can they expect to have answers on these two questions?"

Your points make sense but I also don't know if they care whether we respect them or if they are respected as journalists. Their employability doesn't really depend on how the proles feel about them.

I looked them up, one is the dynamo play by play guy and other does commentary for usl/ open cup. You right probabaly guys that don’t give a fuck (especially with the small mistakes they were making in the start of show) but also probabaly why they were selected because they won’t rock the boat. This is not twellman or lalas who May say shit/ push for answers.

Look I know everyone is ultra frustrated but you are really not going to get people to ask tough questions on a freaking concacaf pre draw show, it’s all about kissing ass and asking easy questions.

And it is a bigger problem for mls and us soccer imo. Millions upon millions don’t care of the sport so there is no heavy demand for FO to face the press or have press confeence, I mean look the shit house that is the Knicks but since many millions follow nba/Knicks they know they have to go out there to show face. We can’t expect what happens in other sports (or big soccer teams around the world) to happen here in nycfc or even some mls teams too

Yeah, I'm not sure what everyone else was expecting here, I don't think this was ever going to be Frost/Nixon

"So David - what's the latest on the head coach situation?"
"Well, there are a lot of high profile candidates interested in the job, we're confident we can announce a name soon, but for now we're 100% focused on the offseason and the CFG conspiracy to screw over NYCFC season ticket holders, and we ho----I've said too much" [David Lee hits button on hidden rocket backpack and blasts through the ceiling in escape]

1 month away from preseason starting. Take your time...

well, at least we aren’t inter Miami saying “we have a coach who will be announced in a week” and then silence

What the hell is Miami doing? At least NYCFC didn't know it would need to hire a new coach until about 5-6 weeks ago. Miami has been on this for a couple of years (excluding all the time before they finally set a time to join).

Miami is crazy they don't have a coach, and we are pretty baffling. We've known since late October Dome was leaving. What are we doing? There aren't even any rumors right now. Crazy. Are we waiting to see if GVB gets a job in Europe before he comes here as a fallback?

Among Miami, Chicago, and NYCFC, our situation is arguably the least urgent because we have the most complete team that needs the smallest overhaul. OTOH, we begin play earlier than the other 2 and have higher expectations. I think Miami and Chicago would be happy just to make the playoffs this year.

Chicago needs a pretty big rebuild, and reports are that they plan to get a new SD before hiring a coach. They need to get going. Miami is just very mysteriously slow.

Saw a Twitter convo today between a couple of seemingly rational Man City fans. They seemed to think that if Arteta gets the Arsenal job, then van Bronckhorst will slide into Arteta's current role as Pep's assistant, but if Arteta stays at MC then GVB comes to NYC. That of course raises the questions of what does NYC do if Arteta gets the Arsenal job. But if these guys were right -- and yes they're kind of randos but also seemed, as I said, to be reasonably informed -- then we could be in a holding pattern until Arsenal figures out what it wants to do.
