I am kind of confused by this coaching staff they're putting together. It's starting to seem slapdash, like they're frantically appointing coaches because of how late the coach was hired, but why isn't Deila bringing along people he wants? Why is this coaching staff being chosen for him? I hope they all work well together because this is a strange coaching staff they're putting together.
It's interesting. One advantage is that they are putting together a staff familiar with the City way to play. If we are committed to playing City football, this ensures that RD can instill his own direction and style, but with sufficient input from family coaches.

Another advantage is that we are building a safety net for the future in case RD has a reason to leave and/or doesn't work out. The assistants won't be tethered to him. In fact, they likely are being groomed to help this team for the long term. Maybe CFG has learned something from the PV and DT departures.

I don't see why so many people take anything that happens and automatically toss it as 'the team is being stupid.'
I think these moves are really smart and the team seems to be learning. They're probably just as annoyed with the dome/pv situation as we are.

That's a very valid point. But is this OK with Deila? Will the coaching staff that meets each other for the first time on Saturday work well together? This is not a normal way to build a coaching staff, and it could potentially not work out.

This could have been their plan after Dome jetted and perhaps it played a part in other coaches not accepting the position. For all we know Deila was their first choice.

Maybe -- but even if he can't bring his current assistants, surely Deila has some contacts of people he'd rather bring over. It's all rather strange to me that he's just getting a staff assigned to him. I hope he had a say in the process.

or it could be CFG was like" well take you but you come with our guys that we assign"

Have you ever been in a management position and you’re told who your assistant is going to be? It’s a rhetorical question.

RD should be surrounded with his guys - people he trusts and can confide in. Having company men as his assistants will tie his hands - who is he supposed to confide in if CFG/et al give him game/tactic/roster orders that he doesn’t agree with? He needs guys that will support his decisions and not the company’s.

And what if he agreed to this? I'm sure he didn't walk in blindly on this. I can say with almost 100% certainty that at one point or another he asked 'and what about my staff?' - I can say that with almost 100% certainty because it's impossible it i didn't happen. You think he would accept the offer if he knew he couldn't bring his coaching staff? No way. Chances are he was told either who specifically, or given a pool of people that might be, his staff.

For all we know he also had a say in who they promoted up to assistant coach?

Right -- this wouldn't have been something they sprung on him after he accepted. My point is that I hope he was involved in the interviewing/recruitment process. Because this is certainly an unusual arrangement, and the first time our team has tried something like this.

There are legit, smart reasons for doing it this way, I just hope this staff isn't mismatched and works well together.

I work in a business where small portable teams switch firms all the time. Sometimes the senior person we hire is thrilled to not have to bring over their team. It goes both ways. Sometimes switching jobs is the easiest way to get a mulligan on a hiring mistake. Also, many times team members don’t want to leave where they are as they can fill the opening created by their bosses departure or maybe they don’t want to uproot their lives for what is typically a smaller pay bump than the senior gets.
It’s also the middle of the season for most of Europe, so maybe he has preferred people that don’t want to leave.
So many neutral ways to interpret this.

Good points! But he didn’t bring (1) single assistant coach with him...... not (1). How many professional coaches don’t bring in any of their people as assistants, in any sport? It’s just so hard to fathom that he doesn’t have mutual bonds with anybody that he wanted/needed and also wanted to come with him?

“He’s praised me but I just do what he tells me to do on the pitch and it works, it does for most of the girls. He tells us exactly where we should be in every moment and it’s paid off in trophies. I wish other people would see what an unbelievable coach he is because he deserves more credit.

“If you ask players who’ve left they’ll say that tactically he is head and shoulders above most coaches. He just loves football, he watches so much football and so many different teams that he just adapts us for every game.

“Hopefully you can see it when we’re playing. Playing back foot, on the floor, speed of pass, ball speed, that’s what he’s shouting on the sideline. He’s just so detailed.

“I think he gets the best out of us, especially technical players. He’s focused on the technical and tactical side so much that technical players do thrive under a coach like Nick.”

An article like this was kind of inevitable.

Still, it is disappointing that they don't provide much agency to Nick Cushing - the person whose ultimate decision it is to leave or stay. After questioning CFG's commitment to the women's team, they bury the part where Cushing himself says he wanted to move on. It seems most likely to me that he was ready to return to the men's game and this was the opportunity that made the most sense.

The timing is unfortunate, and I guess I can understand if fans of the Man City team think they got "Vieiraed" - but this seems more about CFG trying to keep a valued employee happy despite awkward timing than anything else.

LMFAO what??!!!!! efrain juarez? damn the dude took deep dive after 2010-2011. hes not even that old. but as google translates says, he wants someone who speaks spanish in his team of assistants

EDIT: lol totally forgot he played at vancouver

So, with Deila, Cushing and Ballouchy, what part of the staff remains to be filled out?

Worth noting that Javier Perez and Rob Vartughian are both still listed as assistants on the Club website. Vartughian has been goalkeeper coach from the beginning and Perez came in with Vieira and didn't depart with either him or Dome.

So, if they are being retained, then we have a head with 4 assistants.

I know it's a mistranslation of 'happened upon each other' but this is just hilarious:
Ronny Deila (44) accidentally hit Efraín Juárez (31) at a mall in Mexico. Now they have to work together in New York, according to VG.
