Ronald Matarrita [Defender]

ONLY if we stick the the back 3 and we can utilize him as a lwb. But even so…

He looks good going forward but he is a demonstratedly terrible defender who made persistent defensive errors here (reminder: he couldn’t even beat out Ben Sweat for large swaths of his time here) and was a pillar of some of the worst defenses of the modern MLS era at FCC.

FWIW we could probably use an upgrade at both FB positions but even if you overlook his defensive liabilities, Mata is not enough of an upgrade over O’Toole/Malte to justify a move for him. And he is injury prone.

Good guy. Probably a good locker room guy.

But hard pass.

yah. he's a great guy. but he hasn't been playing great since he left us. plus he's super injury prone. not sure if he's just not happy at FCC or what, but the times he played this last season (which were few cause he was injured a lot), he just wasn't the same player we saw in NYC blue.

Could he regain his form? maybe. I think at best he'd be a backup signing for us. Definitely not a starter. Especially with OToole essentially putting his name on that LWB spot.

We’d only have him for 10 games max per season at his age & injury history. Better ways to spend the $.

I know it's never the right thing to say from just one game... but after how poor he was in that FCC/Austin game in the opening weekend, and watching him walk back to support his team on defense, I would never want him on one of the teams I support again. I don't know why a couple of plays from that game stuck with me so much, but but it was like he couldn't be bothered to put in an effort at times. Just a terrible look for a defender.

I’m going to assume the money is good because I really don’t think I would be taking a job in a country with an active war within its borders. Hell, if the option was that or a pay cut, I’d take the pay cut.
How good can the money even be? Last I can tell, they have been playing in empty stadiums.
Surely someone in MLS would have given him $250k?

Looks like mata is with greek side Aris now... seems like a bench player though.
