Running Streaming Movies/TV Thread

My wife loves Haunting Of Hill House.

I’ve never seen it. It’s one of the shows she binges on when I have to work late.

Wild Wild Country

Didn’t think I’d like it but it’s a really good documentary. You just sit back and say to yourself “holy shit this really happened”.

I thought the acting and casting of Hill House was great.

Some of the plot and the ending = disappointing.

Patriot season 2 is out on Amazon. About to get stuck in.

Also, Forever is kind of fun on Netflix.

the ending was a real let down, otherwise i thought they did a really good job on it.

Since I wrote the initial post on Hill House I finished it. I have some issues with the ending but I think I found it more satisfying than most. I also think my issues with it are different from most, at least based on reviews I read that criticized it. But despite all that I generally was satisfied.

I've started a re-watch already, at least through Episode 6. Partly because those episodes were stellar and partly because things you learn in Eps 7-10 explain things you see and learn in 1-6 and don't understand at the time.

I read about a change to the ending that they considered: in the scene at the end when they celebrate Luke's 2 clean years they considered adding the small narrow window from the Red Room in the back to indicate that they were all -- without knowing -- stuck in the room living a fake life. Or maybe even dead. Who knows. But they decided against it.

Amazon bidding for YES

Would it affect us?
Came up in another thread, I forget which. We could lose the Fox Sports Go streaming platform no matter who buys them. Fox is out as owner no matter what. If Amazon buys maybe they put us on their streaming platform, and if so who knows under what terms (eg do you have to be Amazon Prime member to watch, or will they sell a separate subscription)? And who knows what happens if someone else buys Yes without Amazon as a partner.

Further discussion should probably be in that other thread. This is really not the place for it. Just search for Amazon and that recent post should be a top result.

Because Amazon wasn’t mentioned 1,000 times in the stadium thread?

On another note, just finished narcos:Mexico last night. Pretty good. But then i googled the main characters and the real story seemed more interesting than the way it was portrayed in the show. I wonder why they diverged. Also, I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say I think they are settting up a El Chapo season down the line.

Maybe they diverged because unlike Pablo some of the people can still get you touched today. Because why wouldn't you go with the real story. Maybe also it didn't work for TV.

Fellas, I need a Netflix show to watch. Someone please help.

I’ve already seen

Wild Wild Country
Both Ozarks
All the Narcos
The Staircase
Making A Murderer (the new season is beyond boring)

I’m probably forgetting a few Netflix series I’ve watched

The Sunderland documentary on Netflix is fantastic. Some dubious editing (especially the sound), but great access and put together with love. And a good education for NYCFC fans who think they somehow have it bad.

anyone else watch the Black Mirror movie on Netflix called "Bandersnatch"? it's a choose-you-own-adventure and it's cool as hell! looking forward to more movies like this - from Black Mirror or otherwise

Yeah, me and the GF watched it last night. Didn't know it was like that till we started. A bit of a bug out, fun taking turns picking. I feel like they blew out the 4th, 5th and 6th walls with some of the scenes. Really cool concept and execution. If you do that type of thing, before you watch:

The new Deion Sanders 30 for 30 is fun.

I grew up with him as a massive hero. He doesn’t disappoint. What a character. Just a guy who gets what it means to be a star.

With the club's new addition, I'm going to re-post my August 2017 recommendation of Comrade Detective on Amazon Prime word for word:

Comrade Detective - Amazon
Just six episodes. Supposedly this is a 1980s era detective show produced in Romania that has been recently found and restored and dubbed into English so Americans can enjoy it as a time-capsule piece of Cold War east European Communist entertainment/propaganda. In fact it is completely made up: produced and filmed recently by what seems to be a joint American/UK/Romanian team, in Romania with Romanian actors speaking Romanian, then dubbed into English. The voice actors include Channing Tatum, Chloe Sevigny, Joseph Michael Levitt and Nick Offerman. All the standard TV detective show tropes are there: the main character gets a new partner he hates but learns to respect, the beleaguered chief who yells but understands his go-their-own way detectives, the other detective pair who show up just to banter with the main guys, etc.
