San Jose - Postmatch

That guy’s thesis is that “NYCFC is not good on the road” but he is cherry picking stats. NYCFC has the best road record in the East. Maybe Philly is better on the road against playoff teams but we’ll just forget that they have been crap against non-playoff teams? Come on.

Stressful game, have to give a ton of credit to San Jose. They confused NYCFC with their speed (felt like a RBNJ game as they were going 1000 miles an hour) and the man-marking. Jungwirth in particular was massive with emergency defense.

I have never seen so much space in midfield - San Jose literally played 5 up front and five defending with like 20 yards of space in the midfield. Once NYCFC realized that you dribble past one guy into the space you completely unbalance the defense - they turned it on and scored the two goals. Second half they closed up shop way too much.

Big win, you could tell they were exhausted at the end.

Couldn't see most of the match until the last few minutes. Dome, talk to the players. When we are up a goal in stoppage time and everyone is exhausted, GO TO THE CORNER. Don't cross, don't take half hearted shots from outsude the box, kill a minute in the damn corner!

After the match ended someone punted the match ball into the stands and my friend caught it and kept it! Great day

haha that was Callens.

It took us some time to figure out SJ's man marking. You could tell we were lost on how to handle it and at times, Johnson or our CBs were at a loss as to where to go because everyone was just standing there next to a SJ's player. Even when we had some movement, it was only 1 person moving, maybe 2. We need to be better about the off the ball movement.

Don't think anybody had a bad game. Everyone played pretty well. Parks was standout to me and Ofori did really well when he came on. It got kind of scrappy for much of the second half, but at least we didn't fall asleep too badly on defense. Ibeagha was making me nervous though. All I could see was him ball watching and losing track of Wondo or whoever he should have been aware of.

Isi is definitely starting to get his feel back. Obviously, he's not match fit yet, but his speed and dribbling are coming back. BIg difference from Wednesday, where he seemed a bit rusty to me. Another game or two and he'll be the player we know and love.

Kinda shocked Wondo got away with an elbow to the throat and that handball on the slide was exactly like Sweat's on wednesday and should have been called. Thankfully, it didn't make the difference but some consistency in how these handballs are called are NECESSARY.

Agree with 413BLUE, we do not know how to manage a game at the end when we are up. we need to go to the corner flags and the only time we attack is if it's an absolutely clear chance with high percentage of success. Otherwise, corner flags and shield it til you get fouled. Johnson should have been kicking his punts into the corners, but instead, kept going straight down the middle toward Taty. If he went to the corners, Taty could run onto it and take it to the corner.

3 games in 8 days + international duty, the guys played well to get 7 points out of 9. We will have another 3 game congested week coming up against 3 good teams before the final decision day game in Philly. Hopefully, both Philly and ATL lose tonight to give us more breathing room at the top.

Agree that it took us a while to figure out how to play against them. At one point we were just having everybody on their defensive line and there was a ton of space in the middle. At some point we started realizing that the only way to force overloads was for someone to dribble past another player and carry the ball. Once we gained the courage to do this we scored.

What a crazy game. Like a very intense pickup game. Felt like I was watching a science experiment.

Watching SJ's goal, Keaton stopped tracking the player who made the cross. Just to offer a bit of balance to the deserved accolades.

Really appreciating Ring's defensive-line-breaking runs from midfield.

I still think Gaz needs a hug or something. If he can catch a few breaks I can see him being a very useful player for us.

I just need to say that we were terrible at killing out the game. We maybe had three counterattacking possessions that I don't even think we put a shot on frame in the last 10 minutes (including stoppage time). More importantly, we didn't even go to the corner flags to kill the game.

Thought Johnson was really good today in goal. I really liked his distribution. Thought it was better than it usually is.

Chanot and Callens were both really good, not great. Tinny was ok. Thought he could have passed better. I think Mata had a wild game. He was MOTM somehow but I thought he was responsible for the goal. My two cents. He also worked his ass off.

Parks was good. Ring was fantastic. I really like Isi behind the forwards. Mitrita was good again. GMS good defensive shift. Good link up play. But average offensive punch.

I thought Taty looked exhausted offensively but was really good again defensively. He seems to have expended all his energy there. It was good to see Ofori back on the pitch. Big fan of his

If I'm a San Jose fan, I'm just steaming mad about our first goal. A throw-in is given directly to Keaton, who runs right down the middle, then the rebound is on a San Jose player's foot, he just lays it there for Parks. My goodness was that bad.

What a result this is. Six points up on Philly, and while they have a game in hand, that game is right now against LAFC. If LAFC wins that game, we have a 2-game lead over Philly with four to go. Massive. It's not over yet, but there's a legitimate chance Decision Day doesn't even mean anything. We're basically two wins from the bye.

Thought my boy GMS did great, much better showing and he's so much more impactful on the left. Good show from Callens, Isi, Taty, Chanot. Keaton Parks, take a bow son. Dome was saying he wanted players to just take poeple on and Keaton did it, time and again, always so effective and he was unlucky not to score on a great solo break early int he second half.

And strip clubs are awesome.

I thought first goal was on Parks. He didn't track his runner so Mata got picked off between two.

Perfect game for Mata, lots of license to take risks and beat players.
