I agree the distance is minimal. I do wonder whether the river, different borough, and being in Yankeeland make it a non-starter. But again, I'm not fighting it, I even kind of like it, just expressing doubts.
I Know what you mean but technically the Yankees where born at the Polo Grounds As where both all the version of the New York Giants, The New York Mets, The New York Titans/Jets, The New York Cosmos. They all started in the Polo Grounds.

If Harlem River Yards is the site I'm good calling it the Yard. If it's the Gal site I'm calling it The Polo Grounds cause that is really close to where the old Polo Grounds used to be.
It's even closer to where the original Yankee Stadium was (!and in the same borough).

Don't think there are people that would want to call the new place yankee stadium but hey take a poll you never know.

The cosmos never played in the Polo Grounds, which was taken down 6 years before they were formed and the first home stadium for the Yankees was Hilltop Park in Washington Heights where Columbia/NY Presbyterian Hospital now stands.

Well, the Yankees used to play at the Polo Grounds, but I do think your first two points make it an odd fit.

ETA: the Yankees didn’t start there, but they played in the Polo Grounds for a decade and moved from there across the river to the first Yankee Stadium.

The guys on Sirius this morning we’re talking about the success of LAFC and how they got all of the infrastructure right. Coaching. Academy. Training facility. Front office. Fan services. Club outreach. Location. And of course, stadium.

And it made me think - how many of those things have we done we’ll? 50%?

If/When the stadium is built, it'll probably be officially known as the Etihad Stadium.

Personally, I would like to give it the nickname of The Loft to go with the Pigeons nickname. The supporters section should be given the nickname of the Battery. And if they don't put a Villa statue at the main gates that puts Beckham's statue to shame, there should be riots.

As long as they etch his name in Japanese.

As one of the few that's not into the pigeons nickname, I would love to call it the loft for another reason.
