He would be 35.5 if the stadium opens at the earliest opportunity for 2024 season.

James meanwhile would be 32.5, old enough to consider MLS. Lots more of Colombians than Argentineans in NYC, also.

James would bring fans but not sure he'd be as productive as aguero. Guess we'll have to wait and see. In 4 years or so, MLS will be a very different league. The field of players wanting to come here may be very different from today.

With this in mind, who do you guys see that will be available that is worth it when our stadium opens up?
If we are talking 5 years. Neymar strikes me as a guy who wants to play in the states for both soccer and (even more so) non-soccer reasons, but it looks like he's "pre-signed" to Miami (maybe that will change). Aguero maybe as discussed. Pogba will get his multi-year top tier contract in the interim, and then may be a candidate for a fun move to the states. Griezmann strikes me as a player who is going to chase the bright lights of the US at some point and the timing may be right. Will have to think through the timing more on this for others, but those were the guys who immediately came to mind (albeit I may be way off!)

One of my dad’s dad-isms is that you can’t be sure of when your flight is taking off until you’re wheels up. i think this principle applies here.

To illustrate my point, Nashville has been trying to break ground for 4 months but the mayor is holding it up even though there’s a lot of support at the council level. My sister and brother in law live down there (season ticket holders since the NPSL and through USL days) and they’re wondering what’s going on
Nashville's mayor and their team have bridged the impasse. Demolition/construction work at the fair grounds site to begin "immediately." (MLS: New Nashville soccer stadium is a go: MLS club, mayor agree on revised deal). Seems like the new terms speak to both the ownership paying more in potential stadium expenses up to $54 million and constructing the stadium in a way that would leave room for a separate project that would bring NASCAR racing back to a speedway nearby. (Tennessean: Mayor John Cooper, Nashville SC reach new agreement on MLS stadium at Nashville fairgrounds).

With the recent NYT article on our stadium progress, at least I'm not so despondent every time another team moves forward with a SSS

Also, was wondering today whether the issue with Yankee Stadium availability for CONCACAF champions league and whatever the de-winterization process is has been affected by both MLS and MLB scheduling changes, but that doesn't appear to be the case:

2015 - first home game March 15
2016 - March 13
2017 - March 12
2018 - March 11
2019 - March 10
2020 - March 14

If we advance, the first and second legs of the quarter-finals would be March 10-12 and March 17-19 respectively. I would hope YS would be able to get it together. Then it's just the question of whether CONCACAF approves or not

Based on the interviews, the Yankees seem reluctant but I think they'd suck up a few days sooner than expected. The bigger problem, as you noted is concacaf. I have a feeling they will be difficult again and we may be calling RBA "home" for our entire CCL run.

I'd also imagine the cost of getting YS soccer ready a few weeks earlier is probably much (more) than adding another match on the same field a few days from an already scheduled one.

I’m not sure how Concacaf chooses the order of the quarterfinals, but you can bet that NYCFC would want March 17-19 (the return leg) which would be after their home opener so there is no issue about getting the field in place.

then again, I don’t put it past concacaf to say ok and then at the last minute come up with some weird regulation and push NYCFC to RBA again.

The order in the first two rounds is decided during the initial draw. If we win the first round, we host the first leg in the second round, somewhere between March 10-12.

Thanks Gator. Not that a big bag of “incentives” to Concacaf couldn’t change this ;)
