Supporter sanctions?

SGs for this team are basically turning into college a capella groups... anyone who doesn't feel enough like a special little princess starts their own. We're gonna have more SGs than season ticket holders in a few years. Showing everyone how fucking cool you are is more important than actually watching the game for like 50% of these people.
That made me laugh !!! And so true! I know that TR has outreach programs and organizes singing and Tifo, but do the other groups actually do anything to support the team in any way besides going to games like the average STH? Because if not, then they really are just cliques of drinking buddies, some of which have machismo issues.

This....... Is what Manchester United (my other team) is about at thf moment, the fans have made it about themselves not the team

Some of the others recently spent some time and energy on a tifo supporting a DCU fan who was banned for smoke bombs. Way to pick those causes and represent. SMFH

Not the Upper West Side of Manhattan Specifically My Apartment Man U Supporters Club. For them (us) it's all about the team. There have been some testy clashes with rival factions (neighbors who don't appreciate early morning cheering, shouting, and a four year old singing Glory Glory while playing a ukulele), but otherwise they have been the epitome of an admirable club supporter group. Admission is a bit stringent though given the number of bedrooms available.

I'm referring to the witch hunt of "Sacking LVG and hiring Jose" honestly it's beyond a joke, Facebook, Twitter, the fan forums, the fans YouTube channel is basically about wanting to sack LVG, heck even some fans want us to finish purposely 5th so we can legally sack him, not only it's everything what United never been in the past it's driving me away from the club as I dont want to be associated with the fans (Rant Over)

In one vision of the future I actually like the idea of lots of SGs. Imagine if every SG was allowed a max of 100 members. Each SG gets one warning, and then any ban that applied to any member would apply to the whole group. Certainly Templados would be gone by now. Not sure who else. And fans who want to be both raucous and respectful would make certain to find one another and not become a part of a group of hooligans. The team would also much more quickly clear out all the hooligans instead of having a couple more get in trouble and make a horrible name for us at each game.

So close enough to easily throw stuff as evidenced yesterday.... Shitty supporters that partook, but horrible logistics by the club. You'd never see that adjacency in European or South American stadiums.

Agree 100%. They have 20 foot fire proof glass and whole empty sections, depending on the match, separating those groups.
Kind of surprised that with the nutty pro-gun crowd in the USA we don't have shootings at sporting events here.
And when I said nutty I meant it as an insult

Thank you. This means a lot to me because I fight so fucking hard for SUPPORTERS and people shit on me every chance they get. It's a much needed ray of sunshine today.

Chiming in a little late but it was a long weekend. I was at the away Union match with my son sitting about halfway up. The fault on the incident that occurred lies mainly on the security force for the following reasons. The away supporters section distance from regular fans is about 5 feet or the distance between seats and the middle railing, and back to the other seats. While this may be acceptable in other venues ... this is Philadelphia, where obnoxious douchebaggery is practiced by fans like it's a damn religion. We're talking the same fans that pegged santa with snowballs during an eagles game, and the same fans that kicked the crap out of a cop during a flyers game a few years back. That being said, there were a group of about 7 to 10 Union fans that obviously didn't realize that they had purchased tickets next to the away supporters section, because they spent the entire game taunting our supporters with profanity and racial slurs. I mean these guys did about everything but show us their asses. Security did not once ask them to calm down or relocate their seats. However, they had the audacity to ask the supporters sitting around my 14 year son to tone down the profanity near minors, even though he and I endured the racial slurs that were made about hispanics from this group of rednecks. These guys did just about anything they could and acted as tough as they could behind the 20 or so security guards standing on the steps. It took 80 mins of shit talk for someone to whiz a beer can at the Union shit talkers. A small fight ensued between two guys that lasted seconds. My son had a better view and told me he saw the Union fan strike first, which makes sense. They wanted to start an altercation because they were over 10 seats deep into their row and had to walk to our section to get within range. What happened is just human nature. You cannot just let fans verbally berate an entire group of people for 80 mins, do nothing, and then expect good behavior, especially after selling them alcoholic beverages for the same 80 mins. Security did not do their jobs and they were lucky that the remainder of the supporters showed restraint, because there was no way 20 of their $12 an hour hero force in yellow jackets were going to stop our away section from rolling their pathetic band of shit talkers. I do not promote violence, but I understand why it happened at this particular match. It was predictable human behavior and security could have prevented it.

For those of you who aren't in supporter groups, they're usually great to be around. You always hear the worst of what goes on, but in the end we're just passionate fans all here for the same reason. There are going to be knuckleheads in every group ... some more than others. Its easy to find your way around them depending on what you're looking for. Rox was there going up and down the rows making sure everyone at the game calmed down after the incident in aisle occurred. He also goes around when its quieting down to get the singing up again. Hell, at half time, he was posted in the head when I went to piss, just to make sure nothing went down in the bathroom. My son said to me, "what a crap job that guy has!" I turned to him and said, "Yes son, that's Rox, he leads TR. He gets shit on, on facebook, on forums, and he'll probably get shit on in Phili before halftime is over." When my son saw Rox without his shirt on after the half, he turned to me and said, "I guess you were right dad ..." Its that dedication that keeps me paying dues to TR.

Thank you so much, Tony L Tony L. I communicated a very similar message about what happened to the Union FO. Security isn't just there to monitor us. They are there to PROTECT us. They didn't do that and they let a clear standout situation escalate to the point of being on the verge of a brawl. That can not happen ever again at any stadium anywhere. I appreciate the staff not being the overbearing dicks that we saw last season at home in YS but this was equally unacceptable.

You all have my word that I will continue to try my best to create the best possible experience for supporters. I am not perfect and I am only one person but I am always trying.

We will see what the result of all of this is. I haven't spoken to our FO yet but I will send them an e-mail tonight. I know that the Union are having a meeting today. Should anything be communicated to me, I will share it with everyone right away.

You are a good man, R roxfontaine (in a very difficult and often thankless job).

R roxfontaine you might also mention that their security let smoke pop off in their supporter section after every goal. Since the MLS is making this a big issue with year long sanctions ... how did they get all those cans in with the new security procedures in check. CSC Security failed on multiple fronts.

Here's my stupid idea for such a situation.

Turn on your phone video camera. Conspicuously point it at their fans acting like dicks. Pan to our fans acting calm. Pan to security doing nothing and loudly state, "This is a video of the verbal abuse, profanity, and racism coming from Philadelphia fans and passively endorsed by Philadelphia security. Evidence clip #1 for Philadelphia front office and MLS executive review committee." Repeat every five minutes or so being sure that security hears you each time.

I have loved sitting in front of the SS at YS in 136. All the energy of the supporters without having to bring my family into the middle of it. I am now, for the first time, considering giving up my 2nd row seats to move away from the SS. This is all just so embarrassing.

Let me know if you're serious... I want those tickets! I tried to add more this season in Row 1 or 2.

i think they have permission because they have designated cans or containers where they let the smoke bombs go off. i think red bulls is the same

Every other team in the league is allowed to set off smoke. It's usually people not in the section itself. It may not even be supporters. It's usually from behind the goal in front of the section in cans. Just like flags and drums, that's all brought into the stadium beforehand.

We aren't allowed any smoke at all because of the Yankees. If we were allowed smoke it would most likely be set off on the warning track.

My understanding is that smoke is against NYC or state law, thus the issue. (I actually looked up the law on this last year because I'm dumb). Combined with the fact that Yankee stadium has homeland security designation there is not much to be done..,and it might not change in our own place.

Some cities/states allow smoke and then it becomes a stadium or club policy. The ones you see are usually monitored, or a couple people have permits to set off smoke in front of the supporters areas. Though this can vary.

I believe no stadium allows random smoke from all ppl at all times. Though I am not positive.

I don't know for a fact, but I'm 99% sure its controlled smoke only. To me, it doesn't even count.
