Oh great. Here comes another FC and white away kits.

Do these FC loving idiots not realize that the reason "Location FC" names have cachet is they have history, going back to when people literally formed local clubs to play the sport? Same for Inter, Real, Athletic, United or whatever. There is a real, historic reason for those names and that is why they resonate with people. I hate that MLS and so many of its fans think the way to create our own history is to adopt foreign names and conventions that have no local resonance or connection to place.
Also was used to determine which sport/group of the club you were a part of, splitting it up between basketball club, chess club, curling club, etc. as many of the bigger groups were made up of numerous different sport clubs/groups for the locals to join.

In a hypothetical stance we would basically be Yankees SC, and the NY Yankees would be Yankees BC (Baseball Club).

The US equivalent, of a sort, is the convention of naming teams in a single city according to some theme, even if the teams are not related at all. So we have the Bears and Cubs in Chicago, the Lions and Tigers in Detroit, and the Mets, Nets, Jets and Sets in New York. St. Louis once had 2 teams called the Cardinals, as NY once had 2 Giants.

To honor this tradition, and as much as I dislike the MLS adoption of inappropriate foreign names, I would love it if the MLS team in Kansas City were named KC Real, in honor of the Monarchs, Kings and Royals. Instead we have Real in Salt Lake and Sporting in KC, which is stupid and pointless, in that order.

I know a Crew fan fairly well and he mentioned he knows someone "in the know", so take this third/fourth hand FWIW, but it sounds to him like maybe the FO is walking back the potential updates/changes to be made and there may only be some minor changes to the crest or something.

Prior to that though, he also mentioned that the new owners (the owners of the Browns), don't like the colors because they are similar to their NFL rival Steelers. Which, as a Steelers fan, I find hilarious, but it's also a pretty dumb reason to want to change the colors.

But, the Browns "rebranded" several years ago and going into it, there was a whole lot of hoopla about it, but it just ended up being some slight changes in the tints to some of the colors, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is more in line with that.

And with a club like the Crew and the history that they have, coupled with what happened in Chicago and how that's been received, how could they possibly think that major changes to colors and name would be a good idea?

I sure hope they weren't thinking of going Brown and Orange. Then again, with the rich history of success and stability within the Browns franchise, I can see the appeal of associating with them.

Fair to an extent....I mean brazil also doesnt follow the international schedules. They have a bunch of SC ( Sporting Club) and some FC ( Futebol clube) but the difference i guess is that they are legit multiple sport clubs.
Some of the northern countries in europe don't either

Tweaking is fine. The Crew already changed their badge/logo at least once while retaining their essential identity. I have no problem with more along those lines.
The Steelers thing is hilarious. I hate the Steelers but the way they are completely inside the heads of both the Brown and Bengals is quite an achievement. Black and yellow are general Pittsburgh colors, on the flag and all their teams (Steelers, Pirates, Penguins). I don't know why the Crew originally chose black and yellow besides the fact that they go well together. The Columbus flag has yellow, red, white and a touch of blue, which is kind of a mess if you want to base a uniform on it..

Hot take: They shouldn't allow any more FC, United, SC, Inter etc. until MLS agrees to play on the international schedule. If they want to look and sound like the rest of the world, they should follow the same schedule of the rest of the world.
i thought columbus crew was and always has been "SC"? their full name is Columbus Crew SC.

owners have verified that black and gold is staying.
