The Outfield

"Upon sitting down, Torrent wanted to talk about Major League Soccer. He made it very clear that he disagreed with criticism that he did not understand MLS or its quagmire of roster rules that make it difficult for foreign-born coaches to adapt."

"Torrent referred to a list, the same list where he revealed Heber was not the club’s top replacement choice, but rather the club’s ninth option. He said other options were not possible due to salary cap restrictions and simply because other players did not want to play in MLS."

Maybe he understood MLS rules and logistics, but the second [indirect] quote confirms that he found dealing with MLS limitations frustrating (which is what Stejskal actually said at the link in the first quote) even though he was apparently willing to deal with them if another MLS job presented itself. People are complicated.

Yes, and Reyna did the club no favors by allowing the van Bronckhorst rumors to openly fester for several months. You're right that despite the pressure and rumors Torrent had a longer rope here than he will get at most leagues this level or above, but it also wasn't good the way Reyna let that situation develop, especially just before he left himself.
Don't get me started on Saint Claudio. People here are very protective...

Very excited to bring you Trey Fillmore's Outfield debut: The crazy story of Santiago Rodriguez's 7 month journey from Nacional to NYCFC. Trey went all out researching this one.

Here's my summary of what happened last night, the distrust the Yankees and Maddd Equities have caused with local community members, and the updated timeline regarding next steps for the stadium.

Being a more and more dedicated NYCFC fan over the years has caused me to hate the Yankees in ways. This just adds to that. And I'm a Yankees fan.

Chiming in late here but excited that there is more coming after the initial Dome piece (once I read that you had brought a tactical board along, I was hoping for some digressions on that and other things; I had the privilege of standing alongside Chris Jee while he peppered Ronny Deila with questions at the first meet-and-greet with Ronny). The recent stadium and Santi pieces are also great.

All in all, glad to see the Outfield back in action (I know it was more a question of capacity, not desire). But speaking of, I haven't see Chris around here for awhile. Hope he's doing ok

We’ve got some other stuff in the hopper and excited about it all. I know for me personally, I get motivated to write more when the other guys are churning out great stuff.

One of the things that I talked to Dome Torrent about was James Sands, Gregg Berhalter, and the USMNT.

Great kicker at the end. Now I'm rooting against Dome, at least in the short term!

I am honestly so impressed that The Outfield has done real investigative reporting here, involving pulling Certificates of Occupancy and the like. Imagine! Actual journalism in the sports world!

Amazing investigative journalism. You are incredible. I don't know what to take out of this other than the fact that literally 500 parking spots are what's stopping this from happening. Sounds to me like there's some undertext that no one's mentioning. Or some hidden agendas being left out.

The Outfield RuLES!
My first reaction is that Randy Levine and the Yankees organization are pieces of disgusting sidewalk doo doo.

I wouldn't say it boils down to just the 500 spots, though that is a large piece of it.

The biggest takeaway I have is the Yankees want a guaranteed number of parking spots that's enforceable. The bondholders don't want to give that to them because they don't currently have a guaranteed amount.

I'm hopeful that either party will give some lee-way here. Perhaps the middle ground is they keep the language similar that the parking from the remaining facilities will be made available for YS events and maybe include a guarantee of perhaps the average number of parking spaces used for Yankee gamedays. That seems like very reasonable middle-ground to me.
