UEFA Champions League / Europa League 2020/2021

It's truly disgusting. Good for the German clubs and PSG (though PSG is probably due to Qatar ownership and Qatar wants all the best players at the world cup which wouldn't happen if the super league comes through... but, for now benefit of the doubt.) for rejecting. German clubs have the 50+1 rule which is in place for exactly this reason. It's absolutely disgusting what the owners of clubs like Liverpool, Man U, Arsenal, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Porto, ETC. with such incredible history, connection to the fans, and culture, are willing to do. Strip all love and culture out of it. Turn it into a cash cow, moreso than it already is. It's absolutely disgusting. All the teams involved should be relegated as punishment, or their owners expelled from the game. They not only proposed the idea, but they have accepted the proposal. It's gone too far, and there's no going back.

We already see what the closed system is like in MLS, and most of us really don't like it. Some clubs get it right, but lets be honest: for the most part MLS clubs are very very very far removed from the fans. And think of a club like Union Berlin - built by the fans in the most extraordinary of ways. Still in the running now for UCL and Europa League, and all that hard effort would essentially be taken away because some rich people want more money.

Fucking disgusting.

PSG owners are very close to UEFA leadership, which is probably why they didn't accept the proposal. Some of these other big teams are owned by Americans either entirely or partly, so they are perfectly fine with creating an "american" like sports league and doing it all for profit. They don't care about history or culture of a game they have never really embraced as much as the rest of the world.

I agree these teams should be punished in some manner. Relegation may be too harsh, but definitely no champions league and players banned from world cup. If they want to go play in their super league, they will have to pay the piper somehow.

If it all becomes about global money and television audiences do teams even represent cities and neighborhoods anymore? I feel like this is an unfortunate but natural progression of chasing TV and global merchandising revenue with no care to the values and priorities of the local fan bases.

"You'll never walk alone"? More like "You'll never feel more betrayed"

Shameful.

Endevant Villarreal

So excited for title. Been following Villarreal since 2005, and a bit sad since my dad is not around to celebrate.

My wife is from Villarreal, and a small town of around 50k managed to conquer Europe. With every player scoring a goal...it's amazing.

Villarreal was there before NYCFC...and I have love for both.
