I don't see this posted elsewhere, and I feel it deserves it's own thread, so... MLS looks to be taking the leap, as Garber has hinted at over the last few years. Teams will have access to replay during the listed preseason games below (including NYCFC), and, more importantly, the goal is to have it implemented in the second half of the upcoming season. I think this is huge. The amount of garbage calls I've seen lately - EPL and elsewhere - is laughable. Doesn't hurt to have Howard Webb running it either. Hopefully we will get a better idea of how it'll work against Marsch and those dirty pink cows on the 15th.

VAR testing is currently underway in MLS this preseason, where it will be used in approximately 30 games with the goal of implementing live, in-game testing during MLS regular season matches in the second half of the 2017 season. In addition to the in-game tests during preseason, offline testing, with no impact on the game, will take place at MLS stadiums during MLS matches during the first half of the regular season.

i think its a handful of leagues that are doing it....this is still a "test" in the sense that they will take all the data from all the leagues that have it ( including MLS) and then i think goes back to Fifa and the IFAB i think..to see if it will permanently be placed.

i also thought its still up to the ref to decide if it is to be used or not during the game? If he thinks a penalty is a penalty then he wont go to VAR to confirm

while leagues argue about introducing / testing more "technology" into the game, why not try something as simple as adding another referee onto the field? instead of a middle-aged referee running back and forth between 2 halves, have 1 ref per half (and 2 refs see more of the field during set plays?).

Not unheard of, since the NHL added the second referee in... 2000(?)

Would help for sure, but what it comes down to is millions of people across the world all watching Sterling get shoved in the back replayed over and over and no call given. An extra ref might say something, sure, but video replay would be definitive. More and more the big calls are changing the outcome of games. City would be 2 points clear in 2nd right now if it wasn't for that call. With so much money on the line (champions league, etc.), I just think the stakes are getting too high for one guy with a bad angle to call.

Salary. The technology is likely cheaper over the long run and more accurate than a guy that could get obstructed. Plus a record of the event can be saved for further review.

I'm hoping all the testing will be geared with one thing in mind: speed. The other side of the replay argument is soccer is a non-stop sport besides halftime or injuries, etc. Stopping the game to review a call is bad for the flow, but if they can get it done in seconds (which I see no reason they can't) then I think we're ready for it. I agree with above that refs should/will have the final say, but if they were honestly obstructed then why not ask the van real quick what happened instead of just guessing? If they can fine tune it over these testing periods then lets get er done.

true...i mean in a penalty for example it takes the same time to look over the video ( maybe up to a minute) as a ref being surrounded by players protesting decision before taking the actual penalty

I very much doubt adding review will cut down on time spent on player protesting.

well i felt is more of an argument against those that say the game will be "slowed" down. it is probably quicker reviewing it than dealing with protesting players.

what id like though was another rule added that only the captain can talk/argue with ref. i think they do this in rugby

Yeah, they should be able to review it multiple times before the ball is even placed on the spot. And once that happens, there should be less for the players to even argue. Just look up at the big screen and see the evidence that caused the review team to make the decision one way or the other. You don't really see NFL players running up to refs to argue their point. They just look up at the jumbo and think to themselves "yep, I fucked up."

Doesn't seem to improve overall officiating since you are still making judgement calls based on imperfect evidence. It just makes the calls center more on minutiae. like in the NFL, it went from - did he catch it or drop it to did the ball move one micrometer when it touched the ground.

The only video refereeing I like is the goal cameras modeled after the line cameras in tennis. Anything related to calling fouls with video, i hate.

I also wouldn't mind it with offsides. That would be fairly simple and objective.

disagree...thing about offside is that the "line" is always moving. so unless you have moving sensors then how do you implement?

and there are many offside calls in a game...that will surely delay games alot.

Just remember you may have to call fouls against NYCFC and even Pirlo sometimes ;)
Well lets say I'd have partiality to the Team . But someone would finally be out there calling the shots as they should be. As far as Andrea his fouls would be if the hair was too short ,and the beard too long . and he most certainly get the whistle and the stink eye for lazy corners and botched free kicks also this leaning on the goal post when the other team has a corner has to go !!But anyone who Fucks with him in anyway shape or form RED CARD BABY!! I'd also throw Mr Pat V out for stupid calls . Then I'd get in the face of that Asshole Drill Sargent with the English accent and the blonde hair that puts the team through it's exercises to SHUT THE FUCK UP! I can't stand him ! How he has his job I'll never know ?? Now Our Batman and Tommy Mac can do whatever the Hell they want !

How does all of this sound to you ? I think my judgments are On Point ! I think I'm Perfect for the job! I just have to give Home Depot my 2 week and I'm all set !! THANKS JCMore JCMore ! DAMN I Love that picture of yours !!!

Could be wrong, but I think technology like that would be fairly easy to implement. And not sure it would take too long because it would be an instant thing that could be given to the lineman.

is there an article or something? i dont know of any technology or trial being used.

as for the delay im going off the idea once something is called then it can be challenged if the offside leads say to a penalty or goal. then brought back etc
