Villa Signs Contract Extension

Considering how much better the squad got and how much less the f.cosmos are spending. I don't see Villa playing our first round of the open cup.
Agreed. Maybe later stages of the US Open Cup. But I would be very surprised to see him start in our first round matchup.
If we draw either the Kosmos or RB, I don't care what round it is, we put our A-squad out there (Villa) and modify only enough to field required domestic players. Luckily, Jack is now considered domestic, so that's 1 feather in our Cap.

Yep. Can't remember how many foreigners a team is allowed, but it's fewer than MLS - hence the name of the competition (US Open Cup). Green card holders count as domestic.

I would not run out Villa against the Kosmos. I would definitely not want to risk an injury to him against that team.

Plus, Okoli has been decent and is domestic. Give him a run out there against those guys. Perhaps keep Villa on the bench if needed in the second half.

interesting ...thats cool....maybe when we have an academy they can play cup games ( if good enough)

To me, the most amazing thing to me about DV is how much better he has become while here. In season 1, I used him as an example to my son of a lazy striker. But now I use him as an example of a player who hates losing so much that he will do whatever it takes to help his team.

I'd consider that a viable alternative. Definitely want him available if another shitstorm hits and we need to be bailed out.

I appreciate the time, money and commitment involved with the tifo process, but it sure would be cool on Sunday to somehow publicly acknowledge how excited we are about having the captain for another year.

I think it's only one less, but don't quote me on that. I can't even recall what the number is for either competition, I just have a vague recollection of learning that you need one extra domestic player in USOC compared to MLS.

Wasn't it no more than five internationals on the squad?

Could be, it was just a gut feeling. I can't really remember for sure. I'm not even sure why I spoke up, given my complete uncertainty, to be honest.
