"We missed you in the beginning of the season"

I don't think that we will get a full picture of where we stand until the weather improves. The first two games clearly were miserable enough to keep people away, including STH. Most STH have already been to dozens of games, and have the rest of this season, so there is much less of a novelty effect to drive them to show up for lousy weather. No STH is missing the 2015 historic home opener because of the cold. But many STH may have decided to pass on season 3 week 3 in the freezing rain. We need to get into the season before we really see where we stand.

Well if our neighborhood playground and my son's 4-6 year old futsal team are any indication, we have a promising next generation of STH. We have met 3 families with season tickets at the playground where our kids just all happened to be wearing jerseys. We then met a few more families with season tickets this winter at soccer practice. Two of the kids in my son's school class have also been to games. Maybe they were on to something with the Villa Sesame Street segment. I know that there have been studies and debates as to the pros and cons of giving away unused sports tickets but, here, I see the upside of targeting schools, youth teams, etc. From what I have seen, you have plenty of parents grooming the kids. It also would be effective to target the kids who, in turn, may hook their parents.

I think the private school market in the city is a real untapped source of season tickets. Say there's 80 kids between varsity and JV and a boys and girls teams. Multiplied by all the schools in the city...

So maybe that's an additional 1000-1500 season tickets if they haven't already bought.

Surprisingly, among all the kids from the city that I know (mind you NYCFC happened after graduation), none of them are season ticket holders and many of them liked soccer a lot more than me.

Plus, add the alumni from theses schools that are back in the city after college.

I am dropping two tickets if there's no announcement this year. I only added them for priority since I know get to select 4 seats at my day 1 selection spot.

But why bother with priority when it's not going to get you anything.

This is one of my biggest issues. I was trying to look back to see when the last time the team announced anything about a future stadium. I found this: http://soccerstadiumdigest.com/2016/10/patricof-no-news-on-nycfc-stadium-search/
Basically, Patricof saying that there's no news! So it's been 174 days since we last heard that there was nothing new to report on a future stadium.

Exactly.

And by the way -- the Yankees have the exact same issue. No one goes to games in April because it's too cold and miserable. Sunday afternoon games get 40,000+, Wednesday night games are listed in the low 30's, with maybe 20,000 people in the building. This is American sports; people don't like going to outdoor games in cold weather. They put up with the NFL because it's the NFL, but that's not the norm.

This is also why MLS could never take up the European soccer schedule. Fans won't go to games in the northern half of the league over the winter. I know I wouldn't.

Have 360degree continuous roofs that are more "intimate" than something like Colorado's , and have forced-air blowers pump warm air into the stands in the front and rear - much like air curtains in retail establishments' front door. The hot air will provide plenty of warmth to take it from being miserable to easily manageable (if clothed properly). And for the 4-5 games when it's needed, the team sucks it up for the cost; hell, if a bit warmer, all of the spectators will buy the overly-expensive beer that isn't being bought in the frigid conditions.

Edit- this would almost definitely work at RBA, not that anybody would be there to experience it.

Does anyone anywhere in the world actually do this? I imagine for the heaters to have enough effect to get down to the front row, they'd need to make it way too warm up closer to the roof. I feel like that would be a logistically very, very, very, very difficult thing to pull off.

No idea if anybody has applied it to a stadium. Conceptually it's not difficult at all, and as I mentioned, the roof would have to be angled accordingly to work in tandem and not against the concept. It's no different from ceiling space heaters that happen to have forced air as opposed to radiant movement.

huh......im in the message board now and there are cosmos online ads showing in top of page ......explain NYCFC_Dan NYCFC_Dan ????:eek::eek::eek:
Google Ads are targetedthey show based on your browsing and search history (if you have a google account). Otherwise since there are football keywords on the forum it's not surprising that the ads will show if cosmos are doing some marketing.

In our case, the weather is definitely a factor. But, it is a troubling sign to see so many empty stadiums throughout the league. This will give CFG confidence in not putting money into a stadium right now. That said, every league has empty stadiums. I just wonder if while expanding into newer better markets with a better league vision now, maybe some teams should relocate, thinning the herd.

I think if you did a historical look at early-season attendance, you'd see that most teams don't draw well in March and April. Attendance, I'd bet, picks up once school lets out. I'm sure there are some exceptions to that rule, but I'm speaking generally.

Or it'll tell them that marketing the soccer in Yankee stadium product is only going to take them so far. Hopefully at some point the financial hits and complaints will force a little openness and maybe even some action.

FWIW - I have gotten phone calls from ticket reps of the Red Bulls and Cosmos (2x) this week. I mean I'm a season ticket holder already for NYCFC, so I get them not calling me, but I hope folks at are offices are as busy.

Missed your chance to troll them. Should have asked for info on their exec suites and had them send it so you could look it over and compare pricing. Each time they call back you can delay and haggle on the perks and say you need more time. Finally just tell them you're not interested.
