So I've been wanting an NYCFC jersey but money is tight. Replicas are about 70 bucks, and authentics cost even more. Then I thought to myself "check ebay". Nothing really turned up. Then I thought to myself "check aliexpress". For those who dont know, aliexpress is like the Ebay of China. If you want to find affordable but decent merchandise...you can find it there. You can find clones of merchandise, knockoffs, fakes, legit products, licensed stores, etc.

Like ebay, you have to pay attention to seller feedback. You actually need to be more careful because unlike ebay and paypal, aliexpress isnt as biased in favor of the customer. Plus since youre dealing with China, you can run into hassles if you dont vet the seller you choose to do business with.

Also, you have to be mindful of shipping times and the language barrier. Ive done my research and know not to get my hopes up really high when it comes to customer service. I simply did a search for NYCFC kits and found this http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Inte...seys-top-thai-quality-players/1904603159.html

Pretty damn cheap....but also really good quality for the price if you check reviews on youtube or forums online. For 20 bucks I thought it was worth a shot and wouldnt kill me to lose that money if the replica is trash anyways.

My question is about customizing it. I wanted to use my nickname over the number 12. The problem is that Saunders is number 12. The number 12 is the number Ive used for myself every since I was a kid when I created my first custom character in a Nintendo 64 video game. Ive used this number for years not just in video games, but in real life too. But I wonder if it looks stupid considering NYCFC already has a 12.

My thinking is that its not a big deal since Saunders isnt the face of the team or an established star. I figure itd be a be sin to put my name over Messi, Ronaldo, Kobe Bryant, or Lebron James number. What do you think of my getting a Chinese replica, and what do you think of my numbering issue? If anything I may just get a blank jersey.

EDIT - PS - After some research, it appears a few people on the NYCFC reddit have bought jerseys from aliexpress. That's reassuring.

If your buying from aliexpress use golden cow mate the shirts are spot on. I would personally stear clear of the printing tho. Golden cow have both nycfc home and away in stock

I think if 12 has meaning and a personal history for you then go with it.
Didn't mean the no mate ,just the printing isn't the best quality.
However the shirts are spot on and the copy Nike shirts are better quality than the shit Nike sell in the uk

If 12 is your number, go for it!

Lebron on wears 23 because of jordan....so does any body else who wears 23.

GL with the knockoff

,you don't pay for the goods till you have got them and are happy with them.your money goes into holding until your happy to pay it.
We have had some problems but they have been easily resolved no problems.

Why not save for a few weeks and by the replica. You'll feel better about yourself, and you will still get to bitch and moan about China and their unfair trade practices and the fact that they don't respect copyrights.

There are plusses and minuses with Aliexpress.

Plusses: Price and the fact that Aliexpress holds on to your money until you approve the sale. If you get nothing or get crap, you'll probably get your money back.

Minuses: Quality varies and if you can't get a refund from disputing with Aliexpress, it will cost you more to ship the item back than the item cost. So if the quality just isn't great, or the nameset is from the Premier League or generic (I bought a Villa jersey that had a Spain nameset), or if the printing is off center, you're basically shit out of luck.

Without getting into an argument about buying counterfeit goods (my son has a wardrobe full of Aliexpress european jerseys), I will say that even the best quality jerseys will not last nearly as long as the official replicas. You will have thread pulls and very low quality control right out of the bag and the nameset will start deteriorating very quickly. I don't mind that for my son as they'll last until he outgrows them, but if you're an adult who plans on wearing one of these regularly over multiple seasons, I believe you are likely to regret buying the fake. Over time, you WILL need to replace it 2 or 3 times during the normal lifespan of an authentic.

My advice would be to get a blank when you can afford it and add a nameset when you can afford that.

If you go the aliexpress route, remember to wash it inside out and never machine dry it.

You make some good points about the printing ,we don't have it done.
All my kids want is the current shirt that lasts the season, then its not worn again.
As regards buying fake shirts my view is lperfrctly except able if you know you are buying a copy and are happy with that .
Totally unacceptable if you think you are buying genuine and get supplied a copy.
The genuine kit makers are quite happy to rip the sweat shop workers and the fans off ,so why would anyone give a shit about them

I dont moan about any of that. China is no better than the West when it comes to unfair trade and copyrights. Look up agricultural protectionism and how this practice in the USA and EU outright takes advantage of Africa and harms its economic development. And regarding copyrights...should I care about insane markups on goods, when large companies like Nike have been known to ship jobs overseas for cheap labor in countries that treat workers like crap?

Yep dont care a stink about large corporations and their profits. I care about my own wallet. And guess what, Im buying a Chinese 4:3 ratio 9.7 inch retina tablet soon too (ipad clones running Android). If anyone is interested, Teclast and Cube seem to be the go to tablet brand based on what Ive read on forums, and seen on numerous reviews.

Who is good for custom printing then?

Ive narrowed down a couple sellers based on what Ive read here, on reddit, and other forums. A couple people mentioned washing inside out to save the printing over time too.

This.

I have other priorities right now...so Id feel dumb spending 70, especially when I got my official replica USMNT for less in the past. I worked for a subsidiary of Nike a few years back and got awesome discounts on the employee website. So I got my jersey for 40% off. Hell, right now the 2014 collared US replica jersey is only 39.99 to the public. Now I could wait and hope NYCFC jerseys get that cheap, but I doubt they go below 55 bucks anywhere

I can either spend 20 bucks on a knockoff jersey now....jerseys that have gotten a lot of great reviews from numerous sports fans across different forums and review videos. Or I can spend 70 bucks later on a official replica, and likely not feel like the money was worth it. The knockoffs Ive seen dont leave me thinking my official USMNT replica is several times better.

If I get a crap product from China...than I lost less than 20 bucks. And by the end of the season when I try to get a real replica jersey, Id likely be able to find one for like 55 to 65 bucks somewhere. Im trying to cure my curiosity as well as see with my own eyes and hands, just how good these Asian companies are at knockoffs.

If I was spending 40 vs 70 bucks, Id agree with the other guy. But many of these replicas dont even cost 18 bucks, and the sellers go out of their way to make sure you get what you pay for. I even read one guy on reddit got a jersey with a mistake, and was sent a replacement for free without returning the screw up.
