Will We Be Able To Climb Out Of Our Hole And Make The Playoffs?

It would be better to have a top four spot though. That would guarantee a home playoff game. 3-6 and 4-5 in a one game first round. Then, lower seed plays 1, higher seed 2 in a away-home aggregate, away goals conference semi-final. Same policy for conference final. Then a one game for the MLS Cup.

Better, yes. But come on. From where we were a month ago? Let's all be pretty happy with the prospect of making.

Even 2 weeks ago we needed 2 more straight wins to be in the playoffs judging by ppg. We got 1 of 2. So a quick look at where we are now by ppg:

DC: 1.67
TFC: 1.44
NJ: 1.35
COL: 1.33
ORL: 1.33
NE: 1.2
----------------
MTL: 1.2
NYC: 1.11

And here's what would happen to our ppg with upcoming wins against:

TFC: 1.21
@ NE: 1.3
ORL: 1.38

That looks pretty cool, and maybe it is possible. But notice that now all of these wins are against playoff teams. And after ORL the competition gets harder. So let's all hope our new players bring as much as we've been dreaming they will.

and 4 points away from second place. Oh, and 3 points away from the Red Bulls. Last night's win was a big help, Toronto, New England and Red Bulls lost this weekend, and Orlando drew, but it does feel like we've been doing a lot worse. I guess you can say this isn't too bad of a result considering the level of shit we put out on the field every game.

I'm getting giddy thinking about how NYCFC 2.0 will perform.

Getting TFC without Bradley and Altidore will be huge, adding in Iraola, Lamps, Angelino (though, I doubt the Spaniards play) will be a big help

One thing that really concerns me are those three straight road games at the end of the season. Having to go to Vancouver, DC and Orlando is going to be an absolute nutcracker.

Can you imagine what the stadium is going to be like on the last game of the season vs New England if we need to win to get into the playoffs? Oh yeah.......

October 16 we knock ORL out of the playoffs.

October 25 we pass NE for a higher seed.

And we all collectively blue ourselves.

12 points in 5 games without Mix for much of it.

Lampard Iraola, Angelino, Pirlo, and other reinforcements arriving soon, not to mention Mix returning from national team duty before August; no team is going to want to face NYC come August.

DC United in first place 15 points ahead of us, but has three games in hand.

Idk if we will be able to make that up, but I am calling a top 3 finish in the league.

We could actually catch DC. Stumbling around matters less when our opponents are dropping silly points all over the place. This season is shaping up well despite our start. No dominant team in the East.

Amazing what a couple of wins do to rationality. ;)

Oh as things stand now there would be no way. But one can't deny that with all the players that will be joining that this team is going to be one of the best.

Edit: SHOULD be one of the best. We will have to wait and see on that.

Should, yes. And if our second half schedule was as light as our first half, I would say almost definitely. Just consider this.

Games against top 4 teams in either conference:
* so far: @ORL (D), NE (W), SEA (L)
* still to come: @NE, ORL, DC, @COL, @LA, COL, @DAL, @VAN, @DC, @ORL, NE

So 3 games so far and 11 coming. Not saying we can't win some of those, but I, for one, am trying to enjoy the recent wins and be excited about what's to come, while at the same time tempering my enthusiasm.

On the other hand, screw that. Supporters Shield here we come!!!

Yeah let's not get too ahead of ourselves. Things "looked" really good in the preseason. Let's not take anything for granted and try to put things into perspective. Namely making the playoffs is really hard for a first year team, regardless of coach or resources.

I think your comment is wise. But now, as always, I wonder if I think you make a good point because it's a good point or because your avatar makes me think you are brilliant.

Hopefully yes on both counts. Although the honorable Einstein is definitely a genius. I just pretend to be.
