Ok, we've kind of had this discussion a bit between the Stadium thread, the 10/22 relocated thread, and the Crew post game thread.

Now that we've played a regular season match in two different NYC stadiums, I'd like to see what people's opinions are for which stadium you would prefer to be NYCFC's primary venue. Please only vote in the above poll if you attended the 10/22 game.

Discuss everything relevant, between transit times from various areas, pre/post game activities and atmosphere around the stadium, in stadium atmosphere, food, sightlines, chairs, and anything else relevant to what makes you prefer one stadium over the other.

I have not had an equivalent Pitchside experience at Citi Field so I cannot comment on my preferred choice but Pitchside at Yankee Stadium would be very, very hard to beat.

Also location for me goes to Yankee Stadium.

I had to remove the sexist part of your post. #DontCrossTheLine

Yankee stadium for me. First and foremost, we've built something there. It takes more than a Shake Shack to negate that for me.

- The Bronx feels better for me. It feels the right kind of NYC gritty.
- South Bronx United
- I-95
- Celebrations under the 4 train.

There are a bunch more reasons but I'll spare the waxing poetic. Playing at Yankee Stadium isn't ideal but it's unique and I'm never trying to be the same. I did enjoy the sound of supporters being that we had covering at CitiField but beyond that, I was not impressed.

How was the Citi Field Security/Supporters section relationship? I remember at first it was kind of ugly at YS, but it seems to have improved quite a bit since then.

Citifield was great and my sightlines from the supporters section were awesome. It was also a 15 minute drive for me to get to so that aspect im 100 percent down with.

That said, seating there was kind of a mess and people with tickets werent even allowed into their own sections and had to stand above in the concourse area.. I thought we were louder overall and i believe that had to do with the overhang above. That said i felt less whole as a supporters section in general. Section 103 seemed to be doing their own thing and 102 was doing their own thing and so on. It definitely did not feel like a community. It was also hard to coordinate everyone with the drums because the drums werent placed in a central location.

I'm with Rox on the post game. Seemed like everyone just parted their own separate ways after the game, where as normally i can find supporters i dont even generally hang out with at some bar on River and have a few drinks with them.

Not awful but definitely not what it has evolved to in YS. They were completely anal about everything. They were ticket hawking people entering and exiting the section for the whole game, they kept pestering people about not being seats or hounding me about standing in the little indentation next to the stairwell. It was annoying.

First time that I visited Citi Field. I was impressed with the aesthetics, architecture, look and amenities are a whole lot nicer to me. The distance to the field from your seat in general is closer than it is at Yankee stadium.

But if you're asking me to pick which baseball venue I prefer to attend soccer, I'll still go with Yankee Stadium. It just "feels" like home at this point until we permanently move into better digs.

Also to note. I did not see it talked about here that much, but the air traffic noise over Citi really annoyed me. I guess over time you would get used to it, and it may even possibly become a home advantage. But I have to be honest. Personally I have always wanted our stadium to be at Willets Point, but it has me considering if the Bronx would be best because of it......

A short commute to the game is always welcome, but for me the clusterfuck that seemed to be the GA section means Yankee Stadium just edges it. We had tickets for 103, but they kept telling us it was full and to go elsewhere. Also, doing a GA in a section with seats in it seems crazy to me.

Overall Citi Field is a great stadium, much nicer than YS. Seems like they put some thought in to it and made it a nice place to spend time and watch the game, whereas any considerations in YS are totally secondary to the sport on the field.

Forgot about this!

Word. I'm a Yankees fan but I definitely have attended games at CitiField just to enjoy the layout. Particularly when they do their concerts after games. I saw Nas there and had seats on the 1st base line for $60. I spent no time in my seat and just stood around on the concourse in front of Shake Shack.

Also, doing a GA in a section with seats in it seems crazy to me.

They don't have bleachers anywhere. It's clear that the club's objective was to get us behind one of the goals. Given the setup, I guess they went the side we were on for consideration of the smoke stacks and smoke grenades. At YS, bleachers can hold around 3k, I think. 101-105 at CitiField is 1,200 seats.

Never been inside CitiField before yesterday. Factors that have meaning for me.

Citi Positives
  • I said my piece yesterday about my hatred for YS internal architecture. Today it still sucks. It's dehumanizing. Seeing the alternative made me realize just how much I hate being there.
  • Citi is a pleasure to be inside.
  • The left field seats at Citi are better than any non-pitchside seat at YS.
  • Food options better and also better service as experienced by me. Not going to change as long as Yankees own Legends.*
  • Supporters easier to hear.
Neutral
  • Ease of travel is too relative. Better for some, worse for others.
Citi Negatives
  • It appears the first base seats at Citi are as bad or possibly worse than anything at YS.
  • Getting out of the Citi parking lot is worse than trying to get southbound on the Deegan from YS.
  • People who sit with supporters seem almost unanimously to prefer YS. I'm not one of them, but give this some weight.

In the end, I can't get past how much I now realize I hate Yankee Stadium.

* Why the hell does MCFC use Legends? It's enough to make me feel sorry for Man City fans.

Yankee stadium is closer to me and requires no train transfers, but man citi field is just so much better as an experience. I wasn’t there yesterday so I’m not sure for myself how it was, but seems better layout for soccer than Yankee stadium.

A random fact - I’ve taken international friends to nycfc games and they like that it’s in Yankee stadium because they’ve heard of Yankee stadium since the Yankees as a brand are so iconic, and wanted to visit it as part of their trip. It does lend a bit of an advantage internationally vs Citi field and the Mets, even if they are not baseball fans

There are four runways at LaGuardia- three of which are used for departures. Which one is in use depends entirely on weather as well as the configuration in use at Kennedy and Newark. Last night they happened to be using the one which departs right over Citi, but the opposite could’ve been true since they can also land on it going the opposite direction- seen often on clear days with light winds.. Also, during the summer the other runway is usually closed on Saturdays for maintenance, so if we end up with a stadium there, summertime Saturdays would definitely have some noise.

I did enjoy hearing the supporters dancing and and drumming near Shea Bridge at halftime. The overhand helped the noise to really carry.

I live close enough to both airports that I'm used to jet noise, and far enough (almost exactly halfway between both) that it's not too annoying where I live. So it didn't bother me.

But, what I noticed last night was how amazing the cloud pattern was and how cool each jet looked when you looked up and saw it outlined against that amazing sky. Very annoyed I didn't get a shot of at least one of them.

Was my first time at citi so enjoyed it for the novelty value. Even though it was easier for me to get to from LI I think I prefer Yankee stadium.

  • I like my YS seats better, 2nd level view gives more visibility , the citi slope was so flat struggled to see the far end
  • Got to imagine with Citi being so open and exposed the winter March games would be hell
  • The constant plane traffic became annoying
  • Off topic but was cool that crews tunnel was near us several of their players were throwing their shirts into the crowd
  • I dont really eat at the games so food options is a non starter for me
  • Beer lines were crazy but I am sure if it came a regular occurence they would sort that out
