You'll be fine at YS.
Question, I'm thinking of going to Stade Saputo for our game there on July 4th, do I need to get tickets now or will I be able to get them at the gate on game day?

Sadly, attendance has been WAY down this year (for various reasons). You'll have no issues getting tickets at the gate. Opposite fans are usually seated in section 112.

D Dutchy you won't have that issue with our crowd. I don't think you would enjoy sitting in our Supporters Section of course, but our crowd is mostly families anyway.

Enjoy New York

Thanks! Where is your Supporters section? I'll be seated in 202.

While I'm here, do you guys have any suggestions of places near the stadium to eat/drink before or after the game?

Go to Stans before the game for Drinks right accross the stadium (famous yankee bar). Not sure good food in the area. I wouldnt venture far from the stadium when in the Bronx. I am assuming you are staying in Manhattan. If you want PM me and ill send you some restaurant recs in the area you are staying.

Stade Saputo is so beautiful. Went there for Landon Donovan's last game in the East. Can't wait to visit again. Not sure I'm going to go for July 4th.

I personally don't understand the need for national anthems before MLS games but that's just me. There wasn't any anthems before Champions League games where teams represented their country so I kind of fail to see the point of having them for regular league games.

+100000000 the forced jingoism I could do without. It's a freaking sports game, why do I have to demonstrate my love of country?

It's expected in American sports though. If we want soccer to gain mainstream acceptance, taking a stand against the national anthem really isn't the way to go.

The national anthem should be sung before any American sporting event from Little League to MLS and beyond. We're patriotic and like things star spangled.

Little League? Kids Soccer? Hockey? Any HS sport? etc, etc. Never once did they play the NA before any of those when I was a kid, thankfully - that happens now?

I enjoy living in the US, and my 'allegiance' is to this country, but I don't need to pledge my support or wax poetic about it every time I attend, or see my kid (when I have one, if they want to play sports) participate in, an athletic competition.

Where's the politics thread on here?

Personally I'm mildly patriotic and a good bit anti-jingoistic. No objection to anthems before games but in a way I think it kind of makes it un-special that we do the anthem at the drop of a hat. It's like kids doing the pledge every day at school; by the thousandth time they have to say it it's perhaps become just words and a little meaningless.

That said I'm about to sign up with American Outlaws. Never would have considered that a year ago, but now that we have a team it feels a little bit like the US team is "our" team now.

I think the league likes to give washed up former star singers a chance to sing once again in the spotlight. That's my theory.

Why do they play the Canadian anthem even if no teams from Canada are plying in that particular game?

Where have you seen that? They haven't done it at any NYCFC home games. Saturday should be the first time for the Canadian anthem with Montreal playing. That's how this whole anthem discussion got started, I thought.

I coulda sworn that I saw it played during a game with no Canadian teams. I might be mistaken though.

Awesome. I'm going to Montreal in a few hours and I'll go to Brazil - Spain at the big O tomorrow.
