2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs

Chicago and Orlando are scoreless at the half. Match started slow, but really picked up the last 15 minutes or so of the half.

I just turned on the Chicago / Orlando match. It's being played in Bridgeview. Just like us, MLS teams playing in NFL stadiums need their own stadium. That new Chicago stadium can't come soon enough and it will be for my first away day there.
Got that right. The Fire have a worse deal at Soldier Field than we do at Yankee Stadium. IIRC they have a 7 day window to our 3 day.

Gutierrez puts Chicago up 1-0 with a goal in the 48' and almost doubles the score when he raps one off the post a couple of minutes later.

Cuypers puts Chicago up 2-0 with a...... with a...... well, I don't know how to describe it. Let's say Gallese took a page out of the Josh Saunders playbook.

Chicago pouring it on. After Gutierrez hits the post for a second time, Cuypers buries his 2nd of the night in the 68'. 3-0.

Final in Chicago: 3-1 for the Fire. And that score is flattering to Orlando who were dreadful. Chicago easily could have netted 2 or 3 more.

Portland hosting RSL up next!

Portland wins 3-1 and advances.

Not a bad match to watch. RSL ran into a little tough luck and could've had a couple more goals themselves.

Next match will be Friday night with Messi v Nashville.

I think MLS should have 10 playoff teams - 5 from each conference.

Going into our last game, I might have been convinced that we should have 12 playoff teams, but now I am certain it should be 10.

16 of 32 is far too many, but I appreciate how clean it is to have that number. I do think it should be fewer than what it is now, though I realize in a business postseasons will always get bigger, not smaller.

I like 10, then make the play-in one game.
Then make each conference semi, final, and mls cup a best of 3.
Would be fun to watch and everyone gets a home game except the lowest "wild card".

the league has 30 teams.

8 teams qualifying is probably too many but 4 teams would result in just 2 rounds and a final vs 3 rounds and a final. Doing 8 teams provides more games and more viewership/earning potential.

could potentially do 6 teams where top seed plays bottom seed and then winner gets a bye the second round. but then you've got potential complaints about the disadvantage of the bye or the other teams having to play extra games.

Yes, of course it does. My brain decided to pull a nutty this morning
