I am hopeful that max murray will climb the depth chart and maybe take over for tanas as #3. Also hopeful prince takes over for Risa since risa seems kinda fragile.

damn we need some left backs, PRONTO.

If both Murray and Amponsah are left sided CBs, could we see either of them being tried out as a LB? Could also be a left CB in a back 3 and put someone like ojera at the LWB spot? May be others ways to look at LB depth but no other natural LBs besides KOT

It will largely depend on what type of system Pascal plays. At AZ he played a 4-3-3 with attacking wingbacks. If he does the same here it seems unlikely that a converted CB would be attacking enough to play LB. A converted attacker would make more sense. Maybe Ojeda but to me Julain is the best candidate on the roster for that. He's got the size and the speed for it. He's left-footed and tends to hug the sideline when he plays anyway. He has very limited passing vision and struggles with the more intricate link-up play our other attackers run in the box. Putting him at LWB simplifies his role and hides his playmaking limitations. Moving him to the left we lose that nasty cut inside curler shot but maybe on the left he can learn to put in some nice crosses instead.

The Jovan debacle was known as he was signing for us. He never wanted to be here, I don't think David Lee wanted to sign him. One season (one goal) and he's already gone. Sell him and sign someone who will actually be here, contribute, and help this squad.

This is exactly it for me. Selling him will be good for the squad because we will bring in a player who (hopefully) wants to contribute and play here. Jovan was a miss -- it happens, cost of doing business. Now go and find a guy who will be better.

If David Lee didn't pick Jovan and possibly the other big singing (which I agree is a possibility) what is the point of David Lee? Also, if we absolve Lee of the Jovan debacle can we now accept that CFG is playing games with our limited roster spots with interests beyond NYCFC taking priority in certain instances? Or do we still have to keep pretending Lee and CFG are playing some sort of 4D chess multi-year development plan with NYCFC success as the #1 priority?

As much as I like Strahinja's physicality -- and mentality -- I'm totally down with this. Max Murray was phenomenal in the NCAA final. If he's like that all the time, we got a real one there.

And if his ability matches his attitude, we most definitely have a real one in Prince, too. (Yes, my nickname for Tayvon just went out the window, but whatever. I was the only one using it anyway. 😆) Very impressive young man.

So, assuming both those guys make the squad and Tanasijevic moves, and one spot goes to a backup goalkeeper, that realistically only leaves one more open spot in the 20-man. If we keep Strahinja too, then that's it. Am I reading our depth chart correctly?

Strahinja was also very likely signed in part because of Jovan, so if he's gone that eliminates Strahinja's off-the-field role too.

I thought about that. It's certainly possible. But I keep thinking back to something Maxi said last year when he was activated. The squad was gathered around him in training, and someone asked him what he was going to do. He said something to the effect, "Stay away from Tana."

Everyone cracked up, but it was, shall we say, a knowing laugh. ;)

So, he may still have a role. If I had to guess, I'd say it's a matter of whether Max Murray makes the first team or goes to the Deuce.

Probably also depends on where they see Haak long-term too. I think he looked better at CB than CDM but something tells me the team is penciling him in as the Sands replacement in midfield.

My guess too. We'll have to see what Pascal cooks up, but on paper that looks like the most logical place for him.

Lots of improvement across other eastern conference rosters so far this offseason. We likely have 1 or 2 premium roster spots to use. I hope the team can keep up with the rest of the conference.

I just want anyone who's able to ask Lee publicly to ask whose decision it was to sign Jovan even though he clearly thought we were beneath him.
Also he better figure out his attitude ASAP because the competition is fierce at clubs like Benfica who've seen countless young talents and don't have the patience to deal with bad attitudes who don't produce results.

The young potential ROI assets have to all be CFG decisions. I think they pull kids in from their scouting network and then spread them throughout the affiliates based upon space and need. I would guess Lee didn’t have much to do with Jovan other than confirming MLS roster rules to the mothership and nodding his head.

Which is honestly funny that Reyna left/was sacked because he couldn’t follow that easy formula

I think the difference is that Reyna's priority was NYCFC success and he cared more about his own legacy than staying in the good graces of CFG. Given how things have gone since his departure I think it's fair to assume that he pushed back on CFG more than Lee does and as a result Reyna built 95% of our championship roster.

I'm not saying Lee doesn't want to win but his actions tell me his priority is climbing the ladder with CFG so when situations arise where CFG wants to send us a guy that's a bad fit like Jovan he's less likely to push back than Reyna was.

I have long suspected/guessed that after the Lampard situation Reyna told Soriano: that’s the one time you screw me over and interfere with club business and how I build the team. Do it again and I’m gone and I go public on how you run things.

Maybe it’s just what I wish happened. But Claudio has the heft to pull it off.
