I haven't been keeping up with Iraola's coaching career enough to anticipate something like this, but the recent Athletic article about Everton sacking Lampard floats him as a contender due to his work at Rayo Vallecano.

Iraola has Rayo clicking on all cylinders. Even when they lose they are a joy to watch and they have been really tough on the top sides in La Liga.

He did a fantastic job at Rayo. For a mid-table club they have been a lot of fun to watch under him. I hope for his sake he doesn’t go to Leeds. He deserves better.

Bummed to lose him at Rayo, but I’m sure Bournemouth is paying him well and there wasn’t much more upside at Rayo for him.

Wish him well but slightly underwhelmed. I know the epl has all the money now but I think all 3 of those clubs ins seen him linked to are bigger than Bournemouth.

He coached in La Liga starting in 2020 before he moved to Bournemouth. Why would he have taken a job in MLS when he was in La Liga and is obviously of premier league quality?

From watching him play with NYCFC even for a short time it was clear he would be an amazing coach. By the time he got to us, he was a RB who had lost his pace, we switched him to a CDM role and he made an immediate impact organizing our midfield and improving ball movement and distribution. His positioning in the midfield was amazing and allowed him to cover for his lack of pace which is amazing considering he'd played his whole career at RB, honestly one of my favorite early NYCFC players.

Oh I know. Pie in the sky wishful thinking. Scooped him up before la Liga. Once he got the 1st job there, the ship sailed.

Didn’t he coach a team to promotion from the 2nd division in Spain (too lazy to look it up).

I loved him with us too, and I enjoy him doing so well as coach. He now gets to coach Tyler Adams, who I hope doesn’t tease him too much about the Red Wedding.

It's surprising to me that he's in the PL. I could be misremembering but I don't recall ever hearing him speak English during his time with NYCFC and I vaguely remember rumors that he didn't like living in the US all that much and was eager to get back to Spain. Given his onfield impact, I think most fans expected him back after his last season with us when he kind of abruptly retired and the rumor was that he wanted to go back to Spain.
