New York City FC today announced that the Club has signed Academy product Christian McFarlane to a Homegrown contract through the 2026 season with an option for 2027.

The Atlantic talks about this in it's MLS write up - why sign a 14-YO? Answer is both to avoid a Gio Reyna situation (which the Club doesn't explicitly acknowledge) and because of the creation of reserve teams next season. Look to see more of this from NYCFC and others.

Article also states that CMac is going to stay with the U-17s for the remainder of this year, that he plays left back for that team, and that his family were pushing for a contract.

If he's an England youth player, it makes perfect sense. City's academy is one of the best in the world.

Well, this sucks on both a club and country level.

I'd be happy for him and proud of our academy, but I would also like to see him spend time with our first team and get some US Youth Team experience. This seems to make it more likely he plays for England.

He was called up for the USYNT U17s for a training camp in Florida

Great stuff. He was called up to the England U16s recently. We need to keep this guy in the fold.
