Great Tifo

Would be remiss to only wallow in last night's disaster on the pitch and not say how great things were in the stands.

Both the fans and the TIFO deserve high praise. I was stuck at home watching on TV, but the TIFO looked great and got a fair amount of attention. Even my wife (who is uncomfortable with my newfound soccer obsession) said the TIFO was funny and clever. The fans sounded good too, but ESPN tends to mute the crowd noise compared to what you hear on other networks.

I thought the Tifo was good as well. It was clever, with taste and done well. Yea ESPN mutes their mic's and its unfortunate. The crowd seemed into it but you wouldn't know with ESPN. FS1 on the other and goes all out with the crowd noise as it should be.

Also, anyone noticed that they were talking about the Redbull bus being stuck in traffic getting to the stadium? LOL...it goes to show you that they don't know NYC traffic, playing in NJ lol....one would think a professional soccer team would plan for traffic in NYC for a big game SMH...its ok they aren't familiar with the city.

Anyone have pictures to share of the Tifo?

There was an attempt at a second Tifo that did not work out at all. One of the supporters groups handed out sheets of colored construction paper to certain SG sections. The paper had the instructions on them and when all held up was going to be the NY flag, but when the time came it seemed like nobody cared.

The problem with the paper tifo was NYCFC Hooligans waited until the last minute to "unveil" their plan. Their idea should have been communicated between the sections long before gameday. What they probably didn't know is that YS has very strict rules regarding banners / tifo. It takes quite a bit of planning just to be able to put a banner up for 2 minutes. Those two minutes just happened to be the time Hooligans wanted their display up. And the most important part, Third Rail and Hearts of Oak dedicated a lot of time and money on their respective displays.

Hopefully Hooligans will try again during the next match because it was a really good idea.

Also we (Hearts of Oak) have to hand it to Chance Michaels from TR for helping us get our banners in yesterday. Despite getting approval from the FO, Securitas refused entry. Through a slew of phone calls and failed attempts at negotiations we managed to run into Chance. Who did us a huge favor by talking to YS Security and managing to get them to let us in. And thanks to Josh Auerbach (Josh_BKNY) for also helping us out with the banners. Cheers!

Looks pretty good. But I think the players actually needed full bodies. It's kind of hard to tell what it is without it.

There were two incredible tifos at Portland and at San Jose this weekend.

It says, “And ne’er shall the sons of Columbia be slaves, while the earth bears a plant, or the sea roll its waves.” The Quakes FO flipped over the fact that they used the word "slave" and basically made them censor it.

Gorgeous. I think that the SJ Ultras are the best tifo makers in the league. They might not always be super flashy, but they always have a great message. They definitely put the most thought behind their tifos.

The idiocy and the irony.

Very cool tifo btw, thanks for posting.
Totally agree.

SJ tifo context: The Classico match between Quakes and Galaxy has been played at Stanford stadium for the last few years. It's always the weekend of or around the 4th of July and has a kind of "thank the troops" theme to it. This was basically the Ultras' salute to the military.

That Portland Tifo is just damn amazing. Wow.

Nice on from TR. Jersey Boys... haha perfect.
