Made this comment in some obscure place, but i really think NYC marketing needs to get on this so im gonna drop this here. And on the hope that they check these boards i want it more visible so as to make this a reality.

Also..... wow, his page is so empty. How is he only got 2 posts on his page is 3mo.

I posted on his Instagram wishing him good luck and saying it's inspiring to watch his progress - He liked it! I would suggest anyone who has the time to send him good wishes - I'm sure he'll appreciate it!

While this is definitely encouraging and great to see, the real test coming back from an ACL injury is making cuts. And I'm guessing Heber is still quite some time from doing that. Hoping for the best though!

I love the guy, but that’s a steal for us. Great business.

Does that matter? If we were paying all of it, would that impact our roster flexibility in any way?
Yes, it would since MLS since has budget. Money for Heber means less money available for other players to fix and fit in the budget.

But why would the Sounders pay GAM if we’re paying part of his salary? It just offsets. Like if we’re paying $200k of his salary and they pay us $400k GAM isn’t it simpler to just give us $200k GAM instead?

Does this league have a mechanism for that in the salary cap rules? I don't think I've ever heard of salary retention in MLS. It happens a ton in MLB and NHL, but I don't think I've ever heard of it in MLS.

I wondered this myself, but I'm not sure whether it just rarely happens because the same thing is handled with GAM/TAM offsets like I mentioned or is it not allowed.

Heber made $825K last year. That, plus 2 years of $200K GAM means we have $1.025M to find an Heber replacement.

Worth noting that we also paid €2.50m for him back in 2019, so he likely hit our books at substantially above the $825K.

It’s safe to assume a 5 year straight amortization. To $500k p/a. Meaning $1.325mm cap hit. So $1.5mm in cap savings with the $200k in GAM. Not too shabby.
