Messi VS Egypt

The member of Parliament that that was so insulted about the shoes probably said nothing when reporter Lara Logan was attacked by a mob and sexually assaulted in Tahir Square.

This is so fucking stupid! Someone on Messi's team should have been aware of that cultural issue and made sure that he gave a jersey or something. Sucks to see this guy being vilified because he simply didn't know. People are just disgusting. All someone had to do was say, "Messi, this is a kind gesture but shoes aren't the ideal gift in Egypt because X, Y and Z." I'm sure he would have done something else.

I agree but on the other hand at some point also shouldn't the Egyptians be able to grasp the concept of cultural differences themselves and accept that he's not from their society and that this isn't viewed as insult in Argentina or most other places?

Absolutely!

The reaction has not all been negative. Former player Mido, who played for teams such as Ajax, AS Roma, and Tottenham along with a 51 cap career with the Egyptian national team, reminded people via his twitter account; ‘The most precious thing the writer owns is his pen … and the most precious thing the footballer owns is his shoes. I hope we stop the false accusations.’

I'm glad someone gets it
