What a delightful breath of fresh air Malachi was. Our offense looked more alive than it has in weeks, and they did it without Maxi.
Jones generated more than 2/3 of team xG.
He took six shots in 45 minutes. That's more than the entire team in 90 minutes against Charlotte, and 3x the entire team in the first half. It's contagious, too. The rest of the team also took 6 shots second half after just 2 in the first.
It's also more shots than Ojeda has taken in his last 475+ minutes. Can Malachi give lessons to Augustin?
I would have loved for Malachi to score, and he had good chances. Some of them he mis-hit. But it is not self-evident we deserved a second or failed in not scoring a second goal. We took 14 shots. MLS average is 1 goal every ~10 shots. One goal is normal with that output. We had 1.47 xG. One goal is normal with that production.

so happy to see jones continue his progression with each game back. he's exciting to watch and the hunger is evident and contagious. I hope Jansen gives him more minutes.

My best argument for why Hall wasnn't interfering with Freese is Hall came in about 2 yards behind Freese, who was turned and looking all the way left. Had Freese not spun 180º and dove directly into Hall it would not have been interference because they were 2 yards apart and Hall was nowhere in Freese's line of sight. But Freese did spin and dive and he was entitled to do that, so I don't buy it but it's the best I got.

I actually think that VAR decided it was not clear and obvious that he was offside. He certainly interfered with play.

In another game, I could see this being called offside as that clear Red Bull offside attacker interferes with the run of play. I'd give the refereeing a B grade for the match. Unsure why at all Raul Gustavo got a yellow card and waited too long to call out persistent infringement and they never gave a card for that. Nealis for RB should have received a yellow card for that scuffle where Raul Gustavo got a card and then would have received his second yellow card later in the later.
I also think in another game there is a look at the giant handful of Martin's jersey the RB defender had when he missed that ball at the back post. I know things like that get let go because its a derby but he held him back for the majority of his run to the back post and clearly affected a player that missed a ball by inches. I think calling the foul for the shirt pull on martins would have been very soft. The pull is there but not excessive. Martins himself didn't complain. Only a VAR ref looking to dictate the outcome of the game is going to look for the call if there are no complaints from the player being "fouled". Martins missed because he's not a goal scorer and the skill to meet the ball is harder than it looks. I would have preferred he dove his body into it but oh well.
