Scenarios:

Eastern Conference:
(I'm gonna go ahead and skip seeds 1-3 as that has already been discussed to great extent elsewhere)

DCU clinches the 4 seed and a home playoff match with:
A win at Orlando OR
A Montreal draw/loss at New England AND a Philly draw/loss to NJ (or even a Philly win combined with a DCU loss as long as a goal differential of 9 is not made up - there is also a scenario here where DCU loses and Montreal draws, but DCU would have to lose by 9 goals)

Montreal clinches the 4 seed and a home playoff match with:
A win at New England AND a DCU loss at Orlando

Montreal clinches the 5 seed with:
A win/draw at New England OR
A Philly draw/loss to NJ

Philly needs a win against NJ AND a Montreal loss at New England to finish higher than sixth.

New England is effectively eliminated from playoff contention as they need a win against Montreal and a Philly loss to NJ and to make up a goal differential of 12.

Western Conference:
Dallas wins the Western Conference and Supporters Shield with:
A win/draw at LA Galaxy OR
A Colorado draw/loss to Houston

Colorado wins the Western Conference and Supporters Shield with:
A win against Houston AND a Dallas loss at LA Galaxy

LA Galaxy has clinched the 3 seed and can not improve its standing (save for CCL competition, but I'm leaving that out of this post)

Real Salt Lake clinches the 4 seed and a home playoff match with:
A win at Seattle Sounders OR
A draw at Seattle Sounders AND a SKC draw/loss to San Jose AND a Portland draw/loss at Vancouver

Real Salt Lake clinches a playoff spot with:
A win/draw at Seattle Sounders OR
A SKC draw/loss to San Jose OR
A Portland draw/loss at Vancouver

Seattle Sounders clinches the 4 seed and a home playoff match with:
A win against RSL

Seattle Sounders clinches a playoff spot with:
A win against RSL OR
A draw against RSL AND a SKC draw/loss to San Jose OR
A draw against RSL AND a Portland draw/loss at Vancouver OR
A SKC loss to San Jose OR
A Portland loss at Vancouver

SKC clinches a playoff spot with:
A win against San Jose AND a Portland draw/loss at Vancouver OR
A win against San Jose AND finishing higher than Portland on goal differential (currently have a one goal advantage here)
A draw against San Jose AND a Portland loss at Vancouver OR
A draw against San Jose AND finishing higher than Portland on goal differential OR
Losing to San Jose AND Portland loss at Vancouver AND finishing higher on goal differential

SKC clinches the 4 seed and a home playoff match with:
A win against San Jose AND a Seattle/RSL draw AND a Portland draw/loss at Vancouver OR
A win against San Jose AND a Seattle/RSL draw AND finishing higher than Portland on goal differential

Portland clinches a playoff spot with:
A win at Vancouver AND a SKC draw/loss against San Jose OR
A win at Vancouver AND finishing higher than SKC on goal differential
A draw at Vancouver AND a SKC against San Jose OR
A draw at Vancouver AND finishing higher than SKC on goal differential OR
Losing at Vancouver AND SKC loss against San Jose AND finishing higher on goal differential

Portland clinches the 4 seed and a home playoff match with:
A win at Vancouver AND a Seattle/RSL draw AND a SKC draw/loss to San Jose OR
A win at Vancouver AND a Seattle/RSL draw AND finishing higher than SKC in goal differential

Feel free to correct me as you find errors. As excited as I am to be at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, I'm a little bummed to not be seeing the drama unfold at the bottom of the Western Conference table.

That's all well and good, but only three games matter. NY/CLB, TOR/CHI, LA/DAL. And really only one matters - ours if we get a W.

Nightmare scenario for Dallas with Acosta and Diaz both getting hurt this weekend. And Diaz is possibly a ruptured Achilles. Probably opens the door for Colorado to take the Shield
Diaz has a torn ACL I thought. Out for season and probably part of the next one.

ETA: never mind. Looks like a bad podcast report. Achilles is right. But he's out for season.

Oh wow, I didn't even hear about that. Those are major blows.

How bad is Acosta's injury? Bad enough to affect his status for the USMNT? I was railing on him when he first started playing for the USMNT but he didn't look too terrible his last time out there.

Now they're also shorthanded for their CCL match in Guatamala. If I were Dallas, I might go all in with the CCL matchup since it's a one off scenario. They already earned their way into CCL next season with their USOC win and MLS Cup might not be a possibility anymore. Forget LA and the SS, just stay alive in CCL and focus on that. Not a good scenario for NYC if they play it that way.

With DAL's injuries, have to assume LA gets 3 points on Sunday. Nothing less than a win will do for us.

True on so many levels.

If we win, we guarantee a bye in the playoffs.

If we win, we guarantee 4th in the SS standings, which opens up a possible CCL spot.

If we win, we would (if we advance)) host the MLS Cup game against any team other than Dallas and Colorado.
