Gonna be interesting to see ATL/LAFC go at each other. Could see a crazy shootout, or very likely LAFC may torch ATL’s suspect D/DMids. And Bradley has a chip on his shoulder and will want to rebound after being Zlatan’d.

LGP received a red card vs Minnesota, so Atlanta will also be short handed on defense. Plus Larentowitz came off injured, but no idea the extent of the injury

Disappointed to see the Galaxy are playing Sunday night there were rumors circulating that Zlatan was going to make an appearance at Wrestlemania :D

Montreal went down to 10 men on a horrific shin stomp by Taider. How did that bone not snap. Revs consequently up 4-0 in 83 minute.

What I don’t understand is if that was a foul, and I believe it was, then it was a red. There were two legs off the ground with studs up. Nothing about the play said yellow. It either was a foul, red, or it wasn’t a foul (with the reasoning that he played the ball and Feilhaber ran into him). The ref saw red with the speed of the play - should have stayed that way; that was a horrible use of VAR since VAR cannot give yellow cards, which circles back to, it either was a Red or it was nothing.

For me, it was a yellow, but a really bad yellow, and I didn’t have a problem with the red. Not sure why that gets changed on VAR.

ETA - After watching the replay, I don’t think it actually was studs up, and that may have been the difference that kept it from being red on VAR. Still, it was a really hard foul, so I don’t think red was out of the question.

It got changed because ATL is the league’s darling club. They gush non-stop over them. A Red, and being down a man for 89minutes, would’ve set them up for a Red Wedding, and MLS can’t afford to have their darling embarrassed on national TV.

Almiron is so top tier.

If anybody thinks PRO refs aren’t 100% biased, they should watch the ATL/LAFC match. Two BS VAR calls go ATL’s way, and if the first wasn’t wrongfully overturned, leaving ATL short handed for 89min, they would’ve gotten spanked.

I tried, but I I can't not do this.

You gotta let it go Lion.

Also
I can't credit the idea that Ted Unkel is so biased he would intentionally make 2 bad VAR calls for Atlanta, but he's also too stupid to remember to favor them in real time.

ETA: I agree both VAR calls were wrong. I also never wanted VAR. People who screw up can do so just as much after watching video as they do the first time.

My issue isn’t with VAR per se, but that PRO/MLS absolutely favors ATL. ATL put themselves in a position to be undressed on national TV, and the league and their contractors bailed them out.

That’s simply ridiculous.
How so? Seriously, if you want to call something ridiculous, provide a little insight as to why?

I already posted that VAR can’t be used to give a yellow, which is what happened. If VAR was going to overturn the Red that was awarded on the field by the Ref, then it’d have to show there was no foul at all, which it couldn’t do, because both feet were studs up off the ground with straight legs. It had to be a Red or nothing.

Refs can give a yellow when they overturn a red card.
Can a yellow card be awarded as a result of a Video Review?
While yellow card decisions are NOT reviewable, the head referee can decide to caution any players following a Video Review for goals, penalty kicks, red cards or mistaken identity.

Ok, fine. But the foul was the two-legged studs up challenge with straight legs. That’s not a yellow card offense. Never. It’s either a red or nothing, and if VAR said it’s not a red, then it has to be nothing.

Per the link you posted, VAR can only be used for the following, a clear error or a missed incident. The play was charged, so it wasn’t a missed incident. Therefore VAR was enacted under the jurisdiction for a clear error, but it wasn’t a clear error, because of the two-legged studs up straight leg challenge. So VAR was not appropriately used.

“The VAR’s job is to check for a potential clear error or a serious missed incident in four (4) match-changing situations: (1) goals, (2) penalty kicks, (3) straight red cards and (4) cases of mistaken identity. These are the only reviewable plays in a match.”

And why are you carrying Gotham’s water? He can explain, or try to, why he thinks something is ridiculous rather than just making a flippant post.

I agree that it wasn’t a clear overturn via VAR, although I think on balance it was probably a yellow in the first place.

What I thought was ridiculous is the notion that the overturn was part of some conspiracy to favor one team over another. What are you suggesting? That Garber was on the other end of Unkel’s headset saying “Ted, you have to change this decision because Atlanta doing well is more important to the league than our brand new team in LA”? It doesn’t make sense, and it’s not how the world works.

The much simpler explanation is that Unkel sucks as a referee.

Unkle does suck as a referee. And I highly doubt that Garber was on the other end of the headset, but that doesn’t change the fact that a game changing call made on the field in the first minute of the match was surprisingly changed by an apparatus that didn’t have jurisdiction (because it wasn’t an obvious error/omission), and this call benefitted a team that always gets highly beneficial calls, either fortuitous PKs or opponents getting reds.

At any rate, I appreciate your expanded response.
