Okay. I really like to be supportive. So I apologize ahead of time, but can we not use tunes that will drive us (me) crazy? No nursery rhymes. No kids songs. And while I know this is actually a wonderful, classic song, man would I hate having this stuck in my head all day. (Part of the reason that Hey Baby drives me nuts.)To the tune of (This Land is Your Land)
New York is your team
New York is my team
From Joshua Saunders
To Kwadwo Poku
From Khiry Shelton
To David Viiiilllaaaa
New York was made for you and me
Opinions?
The "hey baby" chant is catchy as hell tho. I be chanting it to myself in the showers lol!Okay. I really like to be supportive. As a counter example, what I suggested a while back is based on the tune/rhythm of Run DMC's (classic NY group) It's Tricky:
We're city.
We'll win this time.
We'll win this time.
Our play's sublime.
We're city.
We're city. New York City!
Not saying this is wonderful but if I have to have a song stuck in my head I'm pretty happy wandering around with this:
It's tricky
to rock a rhyme
to rock a rhyme
that's right on time
It's tricky
It's tricky tricky tricky
Sorry to be a downer.
I agree about catchiness. I just want ones that are both catchy and cool. And I think we can do that. I love the Mix Mix Mix Eye of the Tiger chant. And I love Run DMC. The It's Tricky one I think we could really get a super high energy chant going on it. But what do I know? I have no sense of rhythm and should probably stick to making signs. The "hey baby" chant is catchy as hell tho. I be chanting it to myself in the showers lol!
But to that extent, it's the catchy tunes and chants that stick with people and to your point, if "tricky" is catchy like that then I don't mind a chant like that either

All opinons are welcome. I liked your idea I don't mind chanting "it's tricky".I agree about catchiness. I just want ones that are both catchy and cool. And I think we can do that. There's a mix of interest in these what I would call more campy songs. But there is a large contingent that seem to be saying we are ready for either (a) original chants/songs or (b) chants based on music we would actually listen to separate and aside from our soccer fandom. All opinons are welcome. I was just wondering if it was the general concensus that chants like the one I just proposed were not well liked among fans (old patriotic kid songs and/or nursery rhymes). I just took the idea from my AONYC chapter. We sing "this land is your land" and yell out "TO THE NEW YORK ISLANDS" as a chant for USMNT
In any case I'll keep the wheels turning in my head for more ideas
This would be sick to do! High spirit jumping catchy. Everything a chant needs. Obviously NYC instead is USA lolI'm still hoping that we can get the pogo going...one of the more fun chants I've done at a game.
That sounds really good.SoupInNYC I agree about the challenge of the pace of It's Tricky. Here's my next option. ellio_ray This one also comes from a musician heavily associated with NY - Billy Joel. To the tune of Piano Man. I imagine this one as an arms on each others' shoulders swaying back and forth.
It’s 7 o’clock on a Saturday (or insert day/time of game)
The Third Rail shuffles in
There’s a Heart of Oak sitting next to me
And a Blue Lady next to him
We chant city give us a win tonight
Don’t matter who scores the goals
We’ll stand and we’ll cheer and we’ll scream for you
We’ve got blue and white in our souls
La la la, di dee da
La la, di dee da da dum dum dum dum
Score us some goals NYC FC
Score us some goals tonight
Cause we’re all in the mood for a victory
And you’ve got us feeling alright
Repeat from La la la to end 3x
Once this becomes well known could add additional verses over the months/years.
Please let me know what you think.
ellio_ray Ahab_FlandersI like it a lot. Its a tune everyone knows, may take some time for everyone to get the words down, but its not too complicated and those who dont know the words, can join in on the obvious parts (la las).
This could also be a good game-starter.
Definitely go to bars before the game and try to get people into it.Go to games. Spread the word. Start the chants. Be ballsy. And perhaps talk to the right person.... NYCFC_Dan lol
I'll pass it along to the Hearts of Oak facebook group
Sweet. I'll try to get to YS area early for NJRB game. Where is the Dugout? I'm not that familiar with the bars there beyond Stans and I don't see it on google maps.Sounds good!
And if you're ever around and need a partner to start the chants with you let me know. I'm always down for a game a beer and a chant.
