Just checked out the second half of Hartford Athletic vs. Miami FC. Las Palomas Bebés better look out in the next round of the U.S. Open Cup. Hartford's defending was pretty shambolic a couple times, but they're pacey and can be outright dangerous if you let them get loose.

New York City FC II 6-2 New England Revolution II in full time. [4.14.24]

Needless to say, the Revolution were not at all pleased with our guys. It got pretty chippy out there. But we were very much in a New York state of mind and having none of it.

JJ was excellent again and nailed a brace in immediate response to a Revs early goal. Taylor Calheira, Jonathan Shore and Maxi Carrizo scored from open play too. Arevalo scored on a pen Calheira handed off to him as a reward for a terrific shift.

More mental and physical toughness. And the Palomas Bebés know how to lace up their shooting boots.

So how many first team players can play in an open cup match? Shall we send haak back to Hartford to beat his loan team from a while back, if we make it through can we theoretically get a first team xi against MLS teams? Who knows how this even works given Augustin and Jones in the last game???

If the II squad succeeds, then let them succeed on their own merits. To flood the team with first teamers to compete against the other MLS first teams would be a shitty move, imo. That being said, my guess is there is a limited number of players who can switch between the two squads.

It's raining in Hartford and we look very outmatched 5 minutes in. Boys vs. Men.

it's ok. these kids are used to playing up age groups. this is nothing new for them. if they are good enough, they'll win. that's all there is to it.

they've got this!

How are we still 0-0 at half lol.

There were flashes of fluid attacking play and plenty of defensive resilience (and luck) but overall we are VERY fortunate to be level. Let's see what they can concoct for the second half.

yea the kids don't look organized either. it's almost like they've never played together. lots of kicking the ball just to kick it. let's hope they regroup and come out more calm and collected second half. i think the skill is there to win. but they're gonna have to step it up a couple levels.
