The MLS has to do something with the salary cap or it will forever be a joke of a league with only a handful of dominate teams. Not saying make it uncapped but give people some room to spend more.

I agree. Dp slots should be rasied to 5, with the first 3 not counting towards the cap. And the cap should be raised about another 2 million.

Alas. This probably won't happen for a while.

Read on twitter that Xavi is backing out of his Middle Eastern deal and trying to move to NYCFC.

Yes, we were discussing that rumour yesterday in this thread. I still have not found a source with any quotes or more tangible information. The best we could do was a very speculative article from El Economista.

With the World Cup over for the Spanish squad we should know more shortly.

We all agreed we would rather have Xavi than Lampard (though, Lampard would not be a bad signing).

It's like that Jozy tweet about returning home. Check the NYCFC Forums, "WE'RE GETTING JOZY SEE THIS IS PROOF!". Check the RB/Metro Forums "HE'S COMING BACK GUISE! JOZY IS COMING BACK!". Check the Cosmos Forums "zOmG GUYS! YOU THINK JOZY IS REALLY GONNA SIGN?!! THIS WILL BE GREAT FOR COSMOS!!!"

The only rumor I want to believe is Mix.

Getting Mix would be a huge win for MLS and USMNT

I don´t know about that! I believe that Villa will set the bar high as well as Beckham did. Don´t know if y´all agree with me on that, but I believe that depending on how much NYCFC (and Orlando City) will invest, probably we will see a raise on salary cap and DPs (but I think that will raise to 4 probably).

I have a good feeling about this happening.
Question is, IF xavi signs, do we go for another striker and go for a 4-4-2. Or Do we go for another attacking mid or defensive mid and go for the 4-3-3 formation which has had little success in mls.

When there´s smoke, there´s fire! I´ve been reading since yesterday on twitter about that and posted that rumor on my account (@nycfcbrasil). Probably we will know real soon!

And that article in El Economista was referencing the Spanish sports paper As.

English version of the news in As: http://as.com/diarioas/2014/06/24/english/1403618691_187063.html
Original Spanish version: http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2014/06/23/primera/1403554226_259714.html
They are basically one and the same so I don't separate them as sources.

From what I've read and heard here everyone seems to be referencing one "close advisor" leak. Which may or may not be true.

From the article:

"The midfielder [Xavi] is believed to have attempted to reignite a deal with New York City, the new Major League Soccer franchise owned by Manchester City, whose chief executive is former Barcelona director Ferran Soriano. In the wake of Xavi’s decision to opt for Qatar, however, Soriano is understood to have turned down the chance to reopen talks with the player."

There is no chance that the 3rd DP isn't an American. It has nothing to do with quality, but having limits on the number of non-Americans on the squad. You are going to sign a handful of CONCACAF players. The value of an American DP is greater than a Third non-American DP.

who do you think is a good option to be an american DP?

I know I have been saying the next Dp's should be an attacking mid and a defensive mid. But the more I think about it, if we sign Xavi, How awesome would it be to have Villa, Altidore, and Xavi in our attack? A three headed beast we would have.

-----------Villa------------Altidore-----------------
-------------------Xavi-----------------------------

But then again, Xavi would be best suited for a 4-3-3 next to a defensive mid and a guy who can go box to box. So the smartest choice would be to have a guy who can cover a lot of field next to him, like mix diskerud.
