It's in Spanish and to much for me to translate so Go Go Google translate:

"A group of prominent businessmen and specialists in organizing international competitions, headed by Riccardo Silva (MP & Silva), has launched an innovative proposal to perform the equivalent of the UEFA Champions League but in the Americas, will be called "Americas Champions League."

The ambitions of the ACL are quite clear: to create significant competition between the best clubs on the continent that gives teams a platform deployment exhibition put your football tradition, its legacy and passion of their fans under a format that is attractive, strengthen its global brand, and provide important economic returns.

The continental tournament would consist of the best 64 clubs from across the continent. Each team would enter a minimum of $ 5 million for participating in the group stage, but could reach $ 30 million home to win the championship. In total 440 million will be divided among all the participating teams. The competition format would respect the timetable for the clubs, leagues and federations registered and have a duration of between 7 and 9 months beginning in February and midweek games.

THE ECONOMIC POTENTIAL

The Americas Champions League aims to exploit market size (similar to UEFA), history and regional talent, to potentiate the commercial opportunities of the clubs.

Unlike the Libertadores Cup, which has a budget of $ 69 million in prize money ($ 5.3 million for the winner), and Concachampions, which makes no economic premium, the ACL aims to have a budget of $ 440 million dollars in annual prizes to encourage participation of the clubs.

Other focal points of the ACL is to create a trading platform and global media that puts the teams in the escalofón market of world football, which will have an exponential growth in both commercial revenues and rights transmission of each club.

APPROACH WITH CLUBS

According to what juanfutbol, the organizing committee has been in contact with various clubs in South America to present the project and gather impressions about the project's viability. One is the Corinthians club, which through its president, Roberto de Andrade, has expressed support for such competition. "Corinthians have a strong interest in participating in the Americas Champions League if competition were to be performed. I think it's a great initiative for clubs and fans and can create growth and economic sustainability for teams and sport throughout the continent. "

So far, the ACL has confirmed the interest of the most popular teams in South America as a Flamengo, Corinthians, Nacional of Uruguay, Boca Juniors, River Plate and others. It also has the support of the Argentine Football Association (AFA).

The organization of the event you plan to meet soon with some Mexican teams to learn their views on this new tournament, while the United States has already begun consultations with MLS teams.

Besides Riccardo Silva, who serves as founder and president of the ACL, and is Co-founder of MP & Silva and Miami FC owner, the tournament has a strong group of promoters and organizers among them is Paul Tagliabue, ex NFL commissioner from 1989-2006, and Carlo Pozzali, Co founder of MP & Silva and who has held for more than 20 years of senior executive positions in the most influential organizations of Latin American sports industry.

While the Americas Champions League is a future project and still has no date tentative start, the fact that there is this formal proposal to bring the football on our continent to another level, it is a clear signal that exciting years are to fans and football lovers."

My only beef is I wish it was called SuperLiga and not Champion's league. But I'm interested in finding out more.

this is weird, isint that silva guy involved with NASL? its an incredible amount of money coming out of no where really. Does conmebol/concacaf let the teams go and in effect nullify their already established tournaments ( mostly libertadores than concachampions) with the prestige it had all these years?

i feel this may be one of those things that push comes to shove wont be FIFA approved and may end up as a "friendly" tournament.

What's wrong with the CONCACAF Champions League?

I can get vaguely excited for playing Mexican teams VAGUELY , Teams from the Caribbean or central American? It's like if your English, or French, Italian whatever and your team draws a Eastern European team you've never heard of. Now if we were in a tournament for a legitimate trophy and we were playing Boca juniors or santos or someone ? That would get the pulse racing IMO.

The demographics of North America are a problem, you have three very large countries with two strong leagues. The rest of countries are poor and small, Costa Rica and Honduras might have a decent national team but their domestic leagues are never going to be strong.
It's also funny because this would have 5 countries that are each larger than Europe. (US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina )

I'll take the US for example the Continental United States is larger then Europe (you can physically fit the EU in the US). It's one of those weird ass stats

The EU isn't Europe. Europe as a whole is a tiny bit bigger than the US and in a soccer sense it's quite a bit larger since Russia and Kazakhstan are both UEFA nations.

I don't know how the hell you can do this. Flight time between Vancouver and Buenos Aires is 14+ hours. And yes that is one of the most extreme possibilities but others ate 11 hours, 9 hours, , etc. Midweek games are tough as it is but this would be absurd.
The are saying it would be done like March Madness and it would be regions. NA, CA, SA and Caribbean regions, then final 4 then final.

I'm kinda 50/50 on this kind of proposal.
In one sense, I feel it's important for US Soccer, both club and national teams to look to improve against American (as in pan-American) teams as opposed to European and other continental teams. It's one reason I was looking forward to (and still hopeful for) Copa America Centenario.

On the other hand, I don't think MLS is ready to compete in an ACL.
They can barely compete in CCL.
I'm hopeful that CONCACAF will put CCL on a calendar year basis as has been proposed in recent days. I feel MLS will be better able to compete with Mexican (and other countries') club teams with that schedule than they can on the current schedule.

Oh well.
Something else to newstag.

Compared to what this could be it is small time. Who are we kidding CCL is small time, so is CONCACAF.

Fantazma Fantazma yup, he want to organize a Pan-American Champion League.

That's the thing anything NASL I'm always iffy on to see if it comes to fruition ( their own expension at times is no sure thing) Especially after the whole traffic thing with FBI.

I just don't see concacaf and conmebol just saying "oh yea let my teams compete in your tourney" unless they get a good compensation from this.

If you're CONCACAF or Conmebol it could come down to let it happen or your biggest powers walk and form a new confederation. We all know CONCACAF would be fucked without the NAFU and if NAFU MLS and Liga MX say " we want this" not much CONCACAF can say and the powers that be in Conmebol are down with it already.

And this guy is just an investor in the Miami NASL team, he isn't supposedly part of traffic.

That sounds like a bunch of ex-FIFA guys looking to continue the crimes. This sounds like bullshit.
when it comes to sports only the Americans can be trusted to keep it above board as far as running a competition.
FIFA would have given Pete Rose a pat on the back and told him to be more careful

Part of me believes this is part of a plan to let NASL have some "international competition" since none of their teams have a shot at winning the U.S. Open cup and therefore not being able to qualify to concacaf champions league. I remember reading they wanted to go to USSF to grant them an automatic birth?!!!! A second division team demanding a champions league birth lol wut?

As for liga mx, ( well the FMF) they don't have any incentive to leave concacaf hanging, especially when there has been money being earned by both. As for USSF I feel it depends on who exactly is bring out the cash.

As for article is seems to only mention AFA ( which may have the biggest pull anyway in conmebol) and a few teams that have been open for this. In still skeptical about it, until I see it actually set up with dates and all.

Well article mentions one of the guys is the guy who is/ was part of the Miami NASL team not really an ex Fifa guy. Though as I mentioned before the spotty events with NASL has me all skeptical of this happening.
