We're going to hit a pretty big milestone soon. 100,000 posts!

Let's reflect on the last year+

The four most memorable goals for me, counting only those which I've seen live:
(1) Villa against New England at the first home match
(2) Khiry Shelton at the very end of the dreadful Chicago match to squeeze out a draw
(3) Patrick Mullins late in the game in Philadelphia when we hadn't won in something like three months
(4) Pirlo to Villa against DC

There's been plenty to be frustrated about over the past few weeks to be sure, but after years of only getting to see my team in England live once or twice a year (and feeling luck to get even that!), I've loved this season and can't wait for when we are actually good at some point.

Great stuff guys. It's good to reflect on what we've had thus far and find some positivity there with this being our inaugural season. Hopefully more of it next year.
I'd have to say the Villa home opener goal was my top. Sat to the right of the goal (left from my view), so I'm watching the play build up coming towards me. Villa runs onto the ball on the flank and curls it into the far post. I saw the ball coming directly at me and curl in and then villa running down the end line in front of me. Hell of a moment.

My favorite was how pumped I was after that first preseason game against St Mirren and actually watching it during work. Then a couple of days later getting up at 6:45 AM on a Sunday to watch some shitty youtube stream when they played Brondby... let us not forget Becky... #NeverForgetBecky #ShesAnOriginalFoundingMember

I gotta throw it waaaaaay back to the very first party at Ryan's Daughter. That definitely solidified my love for this team and its supporters. We were new to NYC and we ended up meeting a lot of friends through that. We also have a connection with that bar in particular that I've never really had anywhere else. It's great going to a place where the bartenders and the usual suspects know you. The free shepherds pie and wings doesn't hurt either :D Thanks, sasha_ryansdaughter, Sebastian and all the other guys over there! I'll never watch an away game anywhere else.

Last summer I was watching a match between SKC and whoever (don't quite recall who, but it's not important) when my son sat down to watch. I made mention to him that they're going to put a team in Yankee Stadium and if he would be interested in taking in a game or two with me? He told me he would be, because even coming over the TV the atmosphere in the stadium seems like it would be a lot of fun to go.

My son is 21 and a die hard Yankee fan. We would usually go up to the stadium once a month when baseball season started, so I let him know that I'd let him pick and choose whether or not he'd want to see the Yankees or NYCFC.

Well here we are going into September and we have gone up to the stadium 6 times already to see NYCFC (and plan on seeing the San Jose & New England matches) and only once to see the Yankees. This has me thrilled beyond belief. Even with the Yankees in a pennant race my son still prefers to see NYCFC. He's hooked all right, yeah man, he's got it bad.

At this time I'd really like to tee off on how great it is NYCFC has shoved it straight up the ass of all the Chivas 2, Authentic, Organic, Grassroots fucktards, but Dan did request we keep this thread positive............ooh--ahh :D

  • That wacky GIF thread that lasted a few days and was inspired by the guy who kept posting jersey designs.
  • The home opener, the second half against Orlando July 26, and 3-1 over DC.
  • Midas Mulligan's imported scarf delivery odyssey, and his messed up customized jersey lettering fiasco.
  • The way the Stadium News thread just keeps going over the same ground over and over.
  • And over.
  • Going to games with my daughters.
  • Reading a thread and wondering what the hell someone is talking about and then realizing they were responding to someone I had on Ignore.
  • Poku
  • Dan Bucks and Trophy Points

Awesome read! Great stuff.

Running into a wall during my celebration of Mix's goal in the first game; listening to the excitement of Villa's historic first goal while at the urinal at Yankee Stadium ; taking over a dozen guests each to their first ever soccer game; random high fives and chats in the streets when you see someone else wearing gear; taking my little boy to his first ever sporting event and hearing his chants for Pirlo, Villa and Mix (he's three); seeing my wife in an away jersey; spending endless hours on this forum from the time when we had no players; live chat for those preseason games abroad; feeling growing pains for the first time after the CFG disco reveal party; first time at Ryan's daughter for a game; all that time imagining what the view would be like from my already purchased season tickets and visiting virtual venue on a regular basis; the original Lampard gate thread; the joy of the player speculation thread; the YouTube highlight clips every time we added a player (which make even the worst players look like Pele for two minutes); the all hair team pics; I can go on for days, great times.

David Villas first goal on a cold northern night against the New England Revolution. The stadium was jammed, an aural assault for the ages, yet that one goal raised us, the fans, to a new high that I've never seen before or since.

That was the moment I went from a New Yorker who bought tickets he might be able to sell, to a die hard fan who would never consider the thought.

When I first came to the forum I didn't know much about soccer and had only watched a handful of MLS games. I was willing to learn, though, and since then my understanding of the game and the league has grown significantly. I'm now able to take part in game discussions and actively discuss tactics, what players are excelling, a what subs should be made. I can watch a BPL match, a USMNT friendly, or another MLS game while knowing who the players are and who's likely to do well. Most of all, I do my best to watch every NYCFC match just like I do with any of my other teams.

I don't think I'd be such a big soccer fan without the forum, and I definitely wouldn't be as knowledgeable about the sport without reading and contributing to so many threads. That's my biggest takeaway from my time here. Thanks everyone!

Creating the first legendary thread in forum history, still the biggest thread in forums history if I'm not mistaken.
The "Official Random Player to NYCFC Rumor Thread"

Being a TWO TIME, TWO TIME Guess The Attendance Thread winner

Wasting hundreds of hours on here when I could be doing something a lot more productive. I rarely frequent the other forums I used to be on before NYCFC

Love you all. Except trolls.

The Pirlo thread. People trying to gauge if he was coming / convince themselves from any little bit of news (he enrolled his daughters at school in TriBeCa! Woo!) and then he ends up coming. Epic.

The stadium banter / suggestions that pop up again and again every two weeks in the stadium news thread, as we are all starved and trying to will the team into announcing a site.

Good times.

Me.

Me running off that backpacking dude.

Me completely annihilating a few MCFC trolls.

My astute tactical breakdowns, never ending streams of profanities, and my glorious idea to start a forum MOTM thread.

And finally, my ability to troll the trolls and non-trolls alike with such relative ease that no one has a clue anymore when I'm serious.

Like now????

Great forum NYCFC_Dan !! I've learned alot about MLS and soccer in general. Hoping that the forum will get me thru the offseason too!!

It's also been fun waiting to see if Midas Mulligan will finally blow a gasket on the internet!!! ;););)
