I came across this article today on WSJ and thought it was a pretty interesting take. Of course, we have all noticed the different way English clubs are building their clubs and the reasons behind it, but the article was pretty in-depth with supporting quotes from the managers.

I've always attributed one of the Prem's greatest challenges with the CL being the more competitive domestic leagues they play in, in addition to the big three having all of the money in the world. They simply have more challenging opponents than Barca/Real/Bayern.

It's understandable that the Big Four and world-class star strikers are the focus of this article (WSJ is all about the $, after all), but it does seem to ignore the fact that teams not much further down the table do still play with a typical striker up front.

It probably would have been a better angle to go with "why don't the world's best strikers play in the Premier League?" rather than try to contort around to the idea that the EPL as a whole has abandoned the idea of having a main striker.
