Nycfc V Whitecaps Postmatch

1st half I thought we showed some of the most attractive soccer of the season. 2nd half Vancouver had us figured out and - bizarre ending aside - we were lucky to escape. Pirlo and Lampard looked great. Villa looked a bit lost, he kept ending up in the same space as Lampard. RJ was excellent both offensively and defensively - his dance along the endline and pass to Villa was a bit of skill for the highlight reel. Mix seemed to have more offensive opportunities this game but couldn't make the most of them. I was excited to see Shelton come on but he didn't seem to offer much - he looked unsure of himself both on and off the ball.

I really need to go to bed, but now I am all wired. That ending was nuts. Although the PK call for Vancouver was a horrible call, they probably could have one or two earlier in the game, especially in the first half against Facey

Three Golden Points, Three Golden Points,Three Golden Points!!!

The good news, we are still alive we must win 2 more games and the bad news we depend on the results of the other teams results to make it to playoffs.

I actually thought our penalty was a reasonable call. Joy is one of these people who think that getting the ball means it's not a PK, but that's not the rule and I didn't think he got the ball cleanly anyway. I doubt it will end up mattering, the odds of making the cup are still terrible, but at least we're still playing for something.

If we win out the rest of the season, it would be a bummer not to make the playoffs, and there will be recriminations about earlier games, but I'd rather that than we tank and the last home game against New England is for nothing. I like the suspense

TFW you get the win.

TFW you now realize the Red Bulls are closer to winning the supporter's shield now.

Fuck it, it's a shield not a cup.

From whoscored - I think we were effective at creating goalscoring opportunities...

New York City FC

Were effective at creating goalscoring opportunities through individual skill

Were effective at creating goalscoring opportunities from long shot situations

Were effective at creating goalscoring opportunities from the flanks

Were effective at creating goalscoring opportunities from counter attacks

Were strong at finishing

About time. It looked good.

Would have liked to see Poku come in for Grabavoy around 65' and then Shelton in a little later.

Lampard and Pirlo looked real nice together

I am liking RJ more and more each game. Think he brings a lot to the game and will only improve.

Our defense has trouble playing a complete game. They seem to get frantic as the pressure starts to come on.

Saunders was very good tonight.

Mix busted his ass out there.

AJ...eh.

Playoffs or not...there is no doubt in my mind that we will be a top team next year. No doubt.

Fingers crossed for a Montreal meltdown.

When you're hanging on to a one goal lead you want someone who can pick up the ball deep in your own half and carry it forward relieving the pressure, then get back quickly to help out his defense when he can. That man is Poku. So of course Kreis waits for Whitecaps to score then brings on Poku in a midfield holding position. What is it he doesn't see in Poku that 30,000 City fans do?

He's not from RSL

I'm currently in Spain, so I couldn't watch the 4am game haha sounds like a solid effort.

Can't believe we've strung three together. I won't care if we miss the playoffs if we finish strong the last three games. Would be a tremendously positive way to end the season!

Nope. Second three game winning streak. First was games 14-16 against Philadelphia, Montreal and Toronto in June.

It depends whether you are talking league or overall. Between the Montreal and Toronto wins in June there was the US Open Cup game against the Cosmos impersonators, so that ended the winning run overall.

Sounds like a good game. Shame I couldn't watch it due to the 8 hour time difference between here and Vancouver, but I can celebrate the three points at least.

Not to mention Orlando v Montreal on the 3rd October.
