Out of interest what pays more in the states for a top player NFL or baseball and what sort of wages do a top player get paid is that more than EPL for example ?
Yeah, the NFL is more complicated. The minimum goes up the longer you're playing. If you're a rookie the minimum is $435k. If you've played five years that goes up to $745k though.

For the NY Giants, most of the high salaries are from $2million to $7million (like the Mets). Eli Manning, the quarterback, makes $21million.

So about the same as a top EPL team if the Mets pay low then .assume the Yankees will be a top payer then ?
Out of the 30 MLB teams the Mets' payroll ranks 20th at $99million. The other World Series team, the Kansas City Royals, ranked 15th at $110million. For comparison, the Dodgers and the Yankees rank 1 and 2, with payrolls of $227million and $214million. The lowest team, the Arizona Diamondbacks at #30 was "only" $56million.

Well, the point here is that Grabavoy, one of our "best" players, is paid $220k per year, and then several of us said the league can't really improve much if we don't pay higher salaries as we won't get any of the good players.

The connection here is that West Brom's lowest paid player makes $250k per year. So a bottom end of the table team's worst paid player in the EPL makes more than one our our highest paid players.

*That's* the point.
I thought the point of this thread was to discuss if he was on the team or not?

Well, we can discuss it until we're blue in the face but it won't do much good as we don't actually know his official status yet. At least as far as I know.

I was always under the impression that MLS owners were able to undercut player wages here in the US because it's extremely difficult for US passport holders to get visas to play abroad. You can't tell me that guys like Nat Borchers, Dax McCarty, etc can't play in England, Portugal, Germany, etc. They don't have USMNT pedigree and thus can't get a visa. It was even difficult for Deandre Yedlin to get a visa.

Why this isn't talked about more is befuddling - but it creates very little market for an American overseas.

(shamelessly responding to myself)

And it's also probably the reason you see so many good Americans end up in Liga MX in lieu of Europe.

Thats exactly it, and why they are so loathe to give free agency and force MLS teams to pay market rates for players. Its a total fuck job for the players, but they decided they liked getting fucked by choosing not to strike.

More general question: when will we start to see departure announcements again? Not until they're ready to add someone?

I think it's December 7 but I'm having trouble finding the link.

This may sound silly, but for the average MLS player, they can't AFFORD to strike. If you are 29 with a family, making 100k a year, it's not easy to strike. You need that income.

If the Union was smart, they would start putting money away for 2019. Force the owners' hands here. Build up a 10 Million fund to pay wages if they have to strike.

I will leave you too it mate as you havnt got a clue what your talking about.
Maybe you could do some research about the wages that the EPL pays you might be shocked.

I won't be shocked as the post by JGarrettLieb above this one shows. An average weekly wage of less than 50k in the EPL

Don't bother replying as I won't be commenting further on it. I am here to talk about New York City and not Manchester City.

May I make a plea that you not ever stop posting? You post reasonably and in a way that exhibits extensive knowledge of our team only gained by watching.

You also post like this is an NYC board. Particularly laudable given that many fake it unconvincingly. And when you bring in information from outside, you do so in a way that is respectful of our position as a.club and fans.

I love having you be a part of this board. Most all of the rest of the MC first folks who show up only time to time are a plight who offer nothing except a self-congratulatory autonomous jerk/backslap.
